It's hard to fathom how much work goes on behind the scenes in Major League Baseball. Venika Streeter gives us some perspective on that: kzitem.info/news/bejne/pLCO33egfIaqiqA

They just don’t want to devalue the balls MLB sells. Because then you’ll have an ample resale market led by fans so teams would get less money

Why dosnt mlb just serialize the balls during manufacturing? The current process seems archaic and ridiculous..

Good idea. A possible issue is making sure it sticks if the ball gets scuffed from play. This is assuming you mean printing it on the ball like the MLB logo.

So. 1. The league/teams have ZERO incentive to authenticate balls that they themselves aren’t going to sell. The MAXIMUM I could see them doing is charging a fee to have an item authenticated. 2. That said, all that would need to happen is to have Rawlings start stamping unique serial numbers on each ball, and then have an authenticator keep a log of where each ball ultimately wound up. The ump would only be able to have one ball in his pocket, but that wouldn’t really affect things too often.

I once had an Adrian Beltre signed official Florida league baseball I got in the late 90s that wasnt authenticated. It was a hard ball to get when I sold it in 2018. It was from before Beltre played in the majors and I believe he only played one season in high A. I never got it authenticated. In my mind I didnt need it. The ball that was signed could easily be traced to that year and the autograph was consist with the time period as well. If you research autographs you can literally see how a player signed their name over the years and how it changes. For Beltre, literally all his autographs look the same from his minor league days. Completely different from his major league days. Anyway... Without authentication people dont really care. The funny part is, when it came time to sell the ball, it made me to all the research again. Basically so i knew for sure I wasnt selling someone garbage and if the person asked I could make a case. I regretted selling it. I look at other parts of my collection that are authenticated from when Beltre sat down for a company and signed balls. They would sell for 3 times the value. Theres nothing special about them. If you had the two balls sitting next to each other the minor league ball would have the far more interesting story behind it regardless of authentication.

So it’s basically pointless to catch n try to sell a home run ball ?

Zack Hample got a home run ball he caught authenticated. A-Rod's 3000th hit. It's possible.

That ball was authenticated before it went into play. They changed the balls over each time he came to the plate.

That makes sense, but then why can't they just stamp a serial number on every single ball and track it for every single pitch? Pain in the ass, sure, but problem solved. Hire a team to run out to whoever catches a home run, double-check the serial number, stamp it right there, done. I'm aware the pitcher can request a new ball whenever he wants so there'd need to be a lot of unique codes, but this solution feels 'doable'. And cost-effective, if she's not overstating how valuable they are.

Honestly everything other than the breakdowns is kinda hard to get through... I mean the yelich interview was fun just because he is, but your co host stinks and adds nothing to any conversation he's in, and you're only somewhat amusing/entertaining to begin with. Adding random women to make you seem woke doesn't help. This was painful.
