I definitely recommend journaling, whether you're neurodiverse or not. I don't do it much anymore (mostly because I do a lot of writing in my profession), but when I was younger I found it was really helpful to improve self-awareness. A brain dump not only helps organizes and understand thoughts and feelings, but gets them out of your head so you can literally sleep better at night. I think most people with ASD should usually be able to accurately self-diagnose, and that self-diagnosis can then guide them to life management resources. Unfortunately, I see getting other people to take a self-diagnosis seriously is very difficult. The internet has a really bad long-standing reputation when it comes to self-diagnosis of medical conditions. There's also a lot of careless use of terms like OCD or ADHD. ADHD also seems like the kind of thing some people without the condition seem likely to co-opt as an excuse for an irresponsible lifestyle i.e. "I'm bad at school and bored and impulsive all the time, but it's not my fault!" This is all less of an issue for autism specifically, but unfortunately it's tarnished by proximity. Thus I can understand most people being skeptical about a self-diagnosis. Public awareness about symptoms of ASD and ADHD is so poor, even among intelligent people, unless they personally know someone with those conditions, that if you're a functional adult almost everyone is going to give you a lot of pushback on ANY mental health self-diagnosis, at least here in the USA. I was lucky to be able to afford a professional diagnosis, and got one in no small part so I could just definitively silence the endless parade of doubters. It's tiresome and often frustrating, but the only solution I see is work hard to advocate for yourself and educate others.

I think it is so so so very important for late-diagnosed people to share their stories and their journeys in every way possible. So both of you Angelina and Jenny are doing such an important job. I was diagnosed with borderline personality disorder in my 20's, was told it would be close to impossible for me to lead a normal 'work/romance/social' life, I was put on full disability. And I accepted it because 'hey they are the experts' but I ALWAYS felt it was a wrong diagnosis, it was a horrible place. It was thanks to a KZitem video that I finally felt like coming home. Without that video I would never ever have thought about autism, I would never have looked into it. So thank you from the bottom of my heart to both of you! 😻

I've had some incorrect diagnoses too. I've always heard it's good to get a second opinion on things. Yes, isn't this community wonderful?

All questions were really amazing and equally enlightening answered on issues a lot of autistics likely are experiencing or have experienced. I find it amazing that my question about emotions is in the same league as the other 2, but it just goes to show how much of an issue experiencing emotions is for us. I relate so heavily with your answer, especially feeling the emotions from various forms of media so strongly but struggling to recognise my own unless they are extreme. I have recently started therapy but haven't explored Alexithymia too deeply yet. I recently noticed that I even repress excitement, I'm only recognising it from logically picking apart my body's physical response, and I actually mistook it as anxiety. It's bloody confusing 🤣🤣🤣😢😅. Mix that in with being an empath and I have no idea who's emotions I'm feeling. If anyone was wondering I did finally fix my insomnia. Solution: just turn on the fan in the middle of winter 😅 as nothing else worked.

As an NT trying to learn more about autism ,it is the non recognition of emotions that I find hardest to understand . I wonder if it’s directly connected to the mindblindness? Perhaps being unable to recognise other peoples thoughts and motivations interferes with what,to an NT,would cause automatic emotional responses by another’s behaviour?

If you have less money you might check with one of the universities near you. I have heard some of them do autism assessments. There might be a long waiting list. It might work or it might not. Mine was not useful but some people's are.

Hey, I just saw your video. First thing, it would have been nice to have these videos when I was diagnosed, but that's time for you. From my perspective, the main difficulty for ND's is when attempting to simulate into the allistic social construct, but as ND's aggerate and form support groups, ND's will branch off and create its own social construct, don't forget the governing dynamics of neurodivergent is just now being identified, Issac Newton didn't discover natural selection, it was always there he identified the governing dynamics, so the more it is talked about the more it will grow you girls are the second level opening the door to the third level for others to enter not to digress, it remains me of the book of Enoch which talks about the seven heavens of God's kingdom, but anyway good video
