I've been searching for this very kind of tutorial for my Aventure. I've lost most of the brake pressure in my rear brake and I took it to the bike shop while I was on a ride the other day. They tell me it most likely needs to be bled. I was curious what the procedure was to bleed the brake line and was very happy to learn how easy it is to do. I think I'm going to purchase a bleed kit on Amazon and do this myself rather than paying the bike shop every time it needs to be done. Thanks a lot for making a tutorial on this. It's much appreciated.

Excellent tutorial. I just did this to my wife and my Aventure’s. I noticed that pumping quite vigorously seemed to get more air from further down the line. Also, before capping the screw, I added a few more drops from the bottle just to top off and left it squeeze out on it’s own. They feel better than new I think.

Like others have mentioned - Thank You and much appreciation. Finding self-help videos on YT is easy, finding the ones that get right to the point while being excellently demonstrated is a different story. Your video nailed it. BTW, when you post the video about a complete brake fluid replacement I'll bookmark that too. My new bike came with hydraulic brakes and they became soft after ~160 miles. The factory offered to pay to have a local shop do the work but thanks to you I'll do it myself (in a much shorter time than driving my bike to the bike shop would take). Safe riding!!

I used a different “universal” kit bought on Amazon to bleed the spongy rear brake on my Aventure. (Zoom brakes also) The kit you used has a plunger/stopper included in it, that’s handy. The one I used has a clamp that goes on a clear plastic tube to seal it. It works but it’s a little bit more difficult to use. Snugged up the all the brake fittings a tiny bit while I was at it. Haven’t had any issues in the 1000+ miles since bleeding it. Appreciate the video!

I really appreciate this video. I’ve always been leery of bleeding hydraulic disc brakes. Generally speaking I have no problem doing anything with the bike from changing tires to putting on a mid drive E bike motor. But for some reason hydraulic brake system has always made me nervous. But I guess it goes back to when I was racing motorcycles many many years ago. We did not use hydraulic brakes in those days, it was drum brakes so just lack of experience with hydraulic systems. Again thanks much, this comes at a good time.

I bought a complete hydraulic brake bleeding kit for my E-bikes when I first got into e-bikes, because like your automobile you're going to have to replace your pads at some point. Bleeding is only a temporary fix, your pads are wearing down, that is why your brake fluid seems to be low. Adding more brake fluid and bleeding is only making your warn down pads even smaller and eventually you're going to be gouging your brake discs because once the pad is gone, the only thing left is the rivets that were holding your pads together. You may want to check your pads and see if it may be time to replace them. Here is what I bought for that eventuality, it the Park Tool BKM-I hydraulic brake bleed kit. By the way mineral oil is what is most commonly used for bicycle or E-bike hydraulic oil.

Nice, helpful video Scott. Was the fluid really dirty or just a darker color? How does brake fluid get dirty in an almost new bike?
@scotthardesty

Great question. The fluid that was put in the brake lines could have been a darker color that the bike shop used when they did it. I hadn’t thought about that. I’m not a bike pro by any means but that makes more sense than the fluid being bad after only 800 miles.

Hi Scott. I am in the process of upgrading my new Aventure and trying different things out. Have you done a video about that or tried it or know a video I can see about that? Thanks Scott.
@scotthardesty
2 жыл бұрын
I'm in a couple of different Aventon groups on Facebook. I have seen some people switching ours to a 52-tooth front sprocket but I haven't done it myself. I put on a shorter crank (the attached video shows the mods I have done and part of it shows the distance in length with the factory crank and the new one to include links to the shorter crank, if needed). I suggest you search within the groups to learn more about the front sprocket sizes and what they do. Good luck with your search! kzitem.info/news/bejne/yKt63oWMj4F4iaQ

This recommended kit from Amazon does not include the fitting you will need to bleed the calipers. It's a size 15 Torx with a smaller thread. This kit does not include the right one.

I do not mention bleeding the calipers so good to know. This was only for the brake levers.

Love my Aventure but Zoom brakes will become a pain in your A**. The brake lever will leak oil = no braking . Aventon will send you a replacement and that one will leak. I can't understand why Aventon went cheap on the brakes for a heavy a** $2000 ebike. Be careful when your bleeding these brakes don't get oil on anything that your brake pads will touch oil = replacement brake pads.

If they leak I will just take them to my Local Bike Shop and have them upgraded.

Kit is nice but no fitting to bleed rear brake
@scotthardesty
Жыл бұрын
You sure about that? As far as I can tell, it had everything needed for a full brake bleed. Since I have only had to do the lever bleed on these brakes, I have not had to do a full bleed.

@@scotthardesty , thanks but the fitting at the rear is smaller, I ordered a Zoom kit, I’ll see how it works. Your video is actually very well done and is appreciated. I wish you well.

You must not have gotten all the air out. I would try it again.
