This was one of my favorite games on the NES, and I actually beat it, both the good and bad ending. There was a remake of this game that included all the original levels and several extras but the strength of the bubbles was lowered, and how the dinosaurs moved was changed. For most levels the game felt exactly the same but with brighter colors and a bit nicer graphics, however it became very difficult to jump on your own bubbles because they would pop too easily. There are some levels in the remake that are actually impossible to beat because of this.

Uuugh, yeah, I played that on XBox 360, IIRC. It made me so upset. 😟 If you didn't get lucky enough to warp past 57, it was literally a self-soft-lock. Pretty much a scam. I don't know if that ever got patched or not. It was on one of my brother's accounts & he just discarded them all the time, along with the games on them for some reason... But as far as I know, losing that broken Bubble Bobble remake was no loss at all. Good riddance.
@lawnboyfreak

Level 57 is the hardest level. The first time I beat it I did it myself and got the bad ending. I beat it the next day with my neighbor and got the good ending. We even went back through the game and died on every level to write down all the passwords. That's how addictive this game could be!

Total classic - actually my favorite arcade game. The popcorn level has a big frying pan, and you drop the fire into the frying pan and the enemies hit the fire and fly out like popcorn. And that was a chocolate cream cake. And there's no point questioning anything in Bubble Bobble, just accept it, find a close friend to play with and enjoy it :D

Surprised the convoluted ending system wasn't mentioned. I know in the arcade game you got the good ending by beating the final boss in two-player mode, _specifically._ But, this ending gives you a ciphered code. Decipher it and you've got a button code which activates a hard mode called "Super Bubble Bobble". Beat _that_ in two player mode, and you've got the best ending. I hear the NES version is even more cryptic than that, though.
@Antifrost

I love Bubble Bobble, it's the only game I know of that gives you a bad ending for beating it solo. The game becomes so much more fun and manageable with two players, but if you thought 57 was bad, have I got news for you; it only gets harder. If any of you have a Wii/U, I highly recommend picking this up on the Virtual Console and playing with a friend/sibling. See how long you can go before a fistfight breaks out over who gets the candy powerups.
@MrNowherethis

you can get the good ending solo you just have to press start on the second controller before popping the bubble encasing the final boss.

One of my favorite games of my childhood. For years, it haunted me because I could never beat it. Last Christmas, my cousin and I finally decided to beat it. We destroyed the final boss only to realize we have to get the little bible on level 99. Only then can you beat the game, but you have to then go through all 100 levels again. Maddening. Great game though.

I gotta say... this is a very particular type of AVGN. It's very different. It almost has a Rage Quit feel to it. The comments he makes about the game's incoherency. It's really hilarious but in a more subtle way. It almost feels like this isn't James Rolfe. Or like it's James Rolfe playing some character other than the AVGN. I really LOVED this episode. It has a unique stamp to it.

I had it on the Master System which had like six magic items to collect for probably getting the real ending after you beat the game at level 200. Though, you won't even pass level 100 if you hadn't the first three of them. Actually, I never found out the condition for the sixth item at all (yes, the magic doors just appear in certain level after meeting a specific condition). And nowadays, I don't even remember how to get the other ones as well. But that game was funny as hell.. A bit challenging, but not as impossible as it looks here. Every level was beatable if you just thought a little about it. And all the bosses, I think four on the count, were crazy as hell... Good old times.....

I have the NES game, it was first released in 1987 as an arcade game, but it was later ported on to the NES a year later. It was a fun game from beginning to end. The music is the same as the arcade, and the sprites that matches the arcade game. This NES version is far superior compared to the arcade counterparts. The original arcade version was featured in "Taito Legends" for the PS2.
