I have just bought a 127 black and white film called HP 400, made in Germany. I am going to use it in a Kodak Vest Pocket soldiers camera from 1913 that I have just restored. That little Rollie 4x4 is cute. Yashica made a 44 in blue, grey and black that took 127 film.

What a lovely camera. You can actually still buy 127 film sometimes called 4x4 film. I know fotoimpex sell them. Thank you for another informative video.

I have a similar one made by Yashica. I bought a pack of ten rolls from the Jessops Classic shop which used to be near the British Museum. I used a couple of rolls, but soon after had to give up photography and put all of my cameras into store due to failing eyesight. I have recently had some improvement in my eyesight and have started using some of my cameras again. The remaining rolls of 127 will be about ten years out of date by now, but should still be usable. The film was Jessops own brand, but was made in Croatia Ann’s was basically EFKE. As with 120 film you got 12 square pictures per roll, but there were alternative formats used by some cameras which gave eight or 16 exposures. There were many larger fill film sizes in the past, I have a roll film back for a 1920s 5x4 Single lens reflex where the film runs vertically, so is five inches wide. There was also a smaller size, 828, which was used by the Bantom cameras, and gave a frame size slightly larger than 35 mm. Some baby pictures of me in 1957 were taken on Kodachrome in this size.

It is possible to take regular 120 film and slice it down to make the narrower 127 film. You'll also have to make the backing paper narrower also, and of course all of this has to be done in complete darkness. But if you don't mind the somewhat tedious process (and the inevitable ruined rolls as you practice the technique), it is well worth the effort because the finished negatives and slides from the Baby Rolleiflex are gorgeous. It truly is a very high quality camera.

you can use 120 film by using a cigar cutter and cut it to width

I have a Yashica 44 LM, which is pretty much a copy of the Baby. I have just managed to buy some 127 film for it.

Still got mine bought 50 years ago. Sadly no longer in use as one has now to home process the film.
