I saw the Stones in 75 and Richards came on late and wasted. Everyone cheered him. I didn't. He was reckless and pale white about half way through . He then turned his back on the crowd and stood in front of Charlie for about 10 minutes. Charlie all of a sudden gave Keith a nod and Keith turned around and played brilliantly like he was reborn. The Stones played longer because of Keith being late. The concert was like a wild ride on a roller coaster and best live performance ever for me . The Stones are the best at their worst 😜❗

I'm not one to say this time, or that time was better. The 70's weren't better than today, except i was young and i miss it. One thing for sure though, there isn't any decade that compare musically to the 70's. Every form you may listen to now and every form you can think of was created in that decade. No time was there ever more talented musicians playing everything and all with a rock edge. Every day it seemed like a new band was on the scene. I was so into listening to everything i thought was out there, but to this day i'm still finding things from then i hadn't heard before. There will never be another time musically again like it was in the 70's.

This was at the Apollo Theatre in Glasgow . The band played 3 consecutive shows at that venue and this gig was their 3rd night on the Wednesday evening. The football game playing was the European Cup final between Bayern Munich & Saint Etienne which was been played at Hampden Park in Glasgow. Because of the travelling French and German soccer fans coming to town the City council imposed a special late night license so the bars could remain open to 3.00 am. I went to the Stones show at the Apollo and afterwards we partied at the clubs into the early morning hours. It was tough to get up for work the next day but then again I was only 20 years old at the time.

I think I was at that concert! I still have my ticket (£3.50!) for The Stones at Glasgow Apollo on 12th May 1976. That would have been "Bianca's 5th Wedding Anniversary" and the football match would have been the European Cup Final (also played in Glasgow that night) where Bayern Munich beat Saint-Etienne 1-0. Bill mentions "hit the bar twice, the French", but I have no idea what "Scotland win" Ronnie was talking about!?! I think I also remember the final score being announced from the stage. That was my first Stones concert and I've seen them six or seven more times since.

Like this: kzitem.info/news/bejne/0IWiqpmtqXWXjYY But today it is even worth. Most pop tunes use computerised sound producing electronics. The manufacturer programs these sounds into the sound bank, and the musician just calls them up. No more need to create or invent a sound. It's a very interesting time in their history, as they were still playing relatively small venues, I think Earl's Court held about 17,000, and there was something like a million ticket applications for what was going to be four concerts but was increased to six. So 102,000 - just over a tenth of the demand. In a very few years they would be playing outdoor stadiums and arenas, 60,000 plus. My first Stones ticket, Earls Court 76 was £4, though I paid more for it (£10). The last one was just over £100 at Twickenham in about 2000.

Mick was always ready to make moves and being able to think fast and be on the go. Bill,he was always laid-back and just seem to basically go with the flow,he didn't seem to make too many waves. Ronnie he just was always laughing and being full if fun. Keith is always the one who always gets down to the point,of whatever is going on. Charlie is the glue that held everything and everyone together, especiallythe Keith and Ronnie. Whenever Keith was going off the rails,Charlie made sure that he was headed on theright track. Just like he was there for Ronnie wherever he needed that sound sage advice. Charlie, backbone, glue, and who had the mind set to keep stuff together on and off the road🎉😢

So, this is what the boys were doing while they made us wait, sometimes an hour or more past their scheduled starting time. Between '72 and '89 I've been to six of their shows, they never took the stage on time, which played havoc with timing substance abuse for its max effects. Love their music but they havent always been very respectful of their fans.

gnute9 As I recall, the great majority of bands did the same thing, came on late. Bowie did it and said he learned it from Hitler. The idea is you let the anticipation build to a peak and then you come out (before it erupts into violence) and you get the best audiences. These days the Stones run the tour like a Swiss watch.

Hi, Dodger. Between '70 and '78 I attended a ton of RnR shows in the NY metro area, including Bowie at The Garden on a Monday night sometime in the early 70s. I can't recall many bands except for these guys messing with their fans by showing up late for a performance. In '78 at a JFK stadium 'general admission show' they were well over an hour late while fans crushed together were dropping like flies from the heat. If they weren't the World's Greatest RnR Band I might hold a grudge, though I still think their dickheads (except for Charlie, Bill and MT) for messing with their fans.

gnute9 It was brutal in 1975. Only the strongest could survive those insane outdoor general admission concerts in the blazing sun on a football field. I think they were more like 2 hours late that day in Colorado. I'm not sure because at that point my friend had convinced me to leave our prime spot right up against the fence below the stage, and head for the bleachers, where I laid down on the cool cement and had some First Aid attendant hovering over me. Sigh. And yet, I kinda miss those days. Tickets were affordable, everyone had a chance to get up to the stage (bruised and battered). But it definitely wasn't for the weak.

@@j7286 i saw em in Jax Florida in the Gator Bowl in AUGUST of 75, and they were GREAT.....and they werent THAT tardy either.....they came on while it was still daylight, and they really should have waited......once it got darker, it was SO much cooler....i was right down front, and it was brutal, all day...6 other bands opened up for them....it was a great day.....my second concert. Elvis was my first....not too shabby....

Seems like back in the day no matter how long you waited for the Stones to take the stage it was worth it. I wish I had experienced them back in their earlier years (60s-70s). God it must have been great.
