I have my friends snake, but she won’t eat rats. He had her for over a month and she wouldn’t eat for them, i took her home and she ate within two days. The only problem is that she didn’t want a rat. The next day i got a jumbo mice and she instantly went for it. How can i make the transition from mice to rat? I tried the mice bedding inside the rats box. I tried a live rat, no luck. I tried a pre killed rat no luck. So right there and then i knew pet-smart was feeding mice. But she is losing her weight on the top part. Do you have any suggestions on how to make her eat rats? I will try to feed tomorrow. Thanks

This is going to sound cruel and if your not comfortable doing it then don’t but what I had to do with my lav albino girl was let her go two weeks without feeding and when I offered her a rat she nailed it. Two weeks is nothing to a ball python though. But get her used to eating every week then skip and offer a rat. Or put a mouse in and get her excited and then remove it and replace with a rat.

JLG Reptiles what ever works, but before i got her, she wasn’t eating for 4 to 5 weeks. Until i got her, thats when she took her first mice. Because i first offer her a rat and nothing the next day thats when i go the mice and she took it fast.. Plus her spine is showing quite a bit.

Ruben Chavez well get her some size on whatever she will eat for sure. Once you get her healthy then maybe try and switch her over. But it never hurts to offer a rat and see if she will take it. Yah never know lol.

Can i keep frozen rats in the freezer and then thaw them out the night before feeding day?
@JLGReptiles
5 жыл бұрын
You can move them from your freezer to your refrigerator the night before. Then come feeding time you just need to put them in warm water to get the rats up to temperature.

Kathan Miller well I’m glad to hear you decided to get into the hobby! You will love it for sure. Just getting to watch these animals grow is so rewarding. Be sure and take pictures at least once a month because they grow in a way that you don’t really notice them growing until one day you look at them and their an adult lol.

Correct me if I’m wrong but most of your babies are going to be normal hets? Pastel is the only gene I can think of that is co dom where as the dg, clown and albino are all recessive
@JLGReptiles
5 жыл бұрын
You are correct. The clown which I am going to send through the collection has pastel and enchi which will pass on and the lav albino has leopard which will pass on. But as far as the clown going to the other females the offspring will be possible pastel enchi double hets. Once I raise those up and put them back together we might see some eye popping babies.

Hey man I'm super pumped for ya i just want to give you one piece of advice. Sometimes those numbers are only numbers i got 2000 gram females that just arn't ready to breed and 1400 gram females that are telling me there ready so you put a guy in there and bam right away. I also got males over 1200 grams that just don't get it and males 700 grams that are beasts. They will be ready when there ready. And also when you pair your male be prepared for him to quit eating not everyone does it but alot of times it does. I have completely felt like I learned a whole new book from what I thought I knew before. Its been an awesome learning experience and you will fall even harder when you start that side. Have a great night.

Watch the temps and humidity and document when you see a lock. We had our first year this last year and we paired a cinnamon male to vpi female. We lucked out and had a good season. Five eggs no slugs and five good hatchlings. 1 cinnamon and 4 normal. We documented everything. Weights, feedings, dates paired, dates unpaired, locks, refused feedings. Our male didn't eat the entire breeding season either so be cautious with smaller males. I definitely wish you the best of luck and if you have any questions feel free to ask.

@@JLGReptiles just keep an eye on his weight and overall look. If he does stop eating dont panick right away. He might be able to do it if he doesn't lose a bunch of weight. If he does stop then you might have to stop pairing him til he gets a couple meals.
