I am Vietnamese person and this is usually our breakfast meal. Actually, with carrot and daikon, I often mix them with sugar and marine for about 10- 15 mins. There will be water from veg and I'll strain them to be dry. Then I mix with a little sugar, water and vinegar. U can do like the vid if you want to have right then. But I'll marine from 2h to overnight. It will be sour, sweet and crisp. But I don't use fish sauce for this cuz meat is already salty. if all ingredients are salty, I don't think it's a good idea. Usually, we use chilly sauce instead of chilly pepper. After taking all to banh mi, we will take the sauce. This will make all to be mixed and it will be very delicious. Anyway, I think this will be a great Banh mi Thank you for making to our dish
Can we just appreciate his MasterChef level cutting skills for a moment?

Hi , I'm Vietnamese and I'm sure that the butter , meat are not like the traditional Vietnamese bread. We use something called : bơ dầu ( Butter oil ) that made by egg yolks and oil. And the meat has a beautiful red color , and usually we use pork because it's has fat so when we eat , we dont see the dry ( by the cripsy made ) anymore . But it still a wonderful recipe , so proud and thank you !

Watching you Julian cut everything was the most impressive and satisfying thing to watch ever. In fact, this WHOLE video was so soothing! I'm curious; what's a daikon?
@gaubonghaybuon24111

Daikon is kind of a type of Asian radish or parsnip. It is generally bigger, rounder, crispier and juicier than Western parsnip. Hope I'm right, I'm not sure, and I hope that helps.

Oh, thank you! Gotta keep my eyes on the lookout for parsnip the next time I go shopping.

M Hatter Daikon is readily available at any Asian store, some supermarkets might already sell them, the taste of parsnip just isn't quite right to replace daikon. So my best bet is radish or red radish, its taste is very similar to daikon despite the appearance. Best of luck :)

+M Hatter Usually daikon's got white skin, just letting you know. The daikon he's using is kinda special I guess,I'm Japanese but I haven't even seen this kinda daikon before.

I am Vietnamese and I think you have cooked a great dish. Bcs you are not Vietnamese so I will correct this word for you. Vietnamese fish sauce is "nuoc mam" when you write in Eng and in Vietnamese it's "nước mắm". That's all I want to say. Thank you for making Vietnamese food and thank for this interesting video

I love Banh Mi at DC Sandwich in Fairfax. I get the #2, which is grilled pork. But it’s the pork dyed pink. Weird at first but good. They use jalapeños and they slice the cucumber lengthwise. Yum-mee!
As a vietnamese, this guy know whats up. Including the Patê while most of other chef forget this.

Beautiful Presentation. But... Make sure you toast your bread up in the oven for about 5 mins to get a good slightly golden crust on the edges. Im the Owner and Operator of Cafe Orleans on Okinawa and our Banh Mi is a hit. I grew up in New Orleans and we have a very large Vietnamese Community. Also, Cut your Pork Butt into thin slices and Marinade it for an hour to overnight so that that sauce reaches deep into the meat. Cest si Bon. :-)
