My favourite polearm is the T5 Long Glaive Head (min size), T3 Double Thorn Wings (default size), T3 Long Pine Reinforced Shaft (min size). The swing speed is 66, reach 199 and swing cut damage 192. It might not have quite the reach or speed of your weapon but this weapon has every polearm option. It can swing, it can thrust, it can dismount on thrust, it can brace and it can couch. It is a weapon that you can put in your loadout and not have to swap out for different missions.

Using the T4 falchion blade that you recommend for selling, I am able to make a sword that sells for 11k+ (11k when a companion with no skill makes it) that also only costs only iron and wrought iron (no steel or fine steel). Whether or not that is good depends on what materials you have, but it’s definitely a consideration. I don’t remember exactly what other parts I use, but I haven’t bothered to optimize anyways.

Great guide. I used your 2H polearm and then tweaked it a little. I was able to get longer reach while keeping the same swing speed and actually improved handling (though I am not sure exactly what handling does still). Damage is a little less, but that has no practical effect since it still one-hit KOs. I use the same blade (max length), but instead use 3 tier flag and staff (rectangular banner) and (short pine staff). I then shortened the staff until 70 swing speed. Result is 244 weapon reach, 70 speed, 138 cut, and 65 handling. If you want to instead gain more swing speed for a little lower length, the tier 4 triple gonfalon banner can be used with the tier 1 pine spear staff. You again give up a few cut damage for 75 swing speed and 225 reach; still long enough to use pretty easily on horseback. There is also one practical reason to add a tier two pommel even though it doesn’t affect stats; it actually reduces the smithing difficulty to a lower level than not including one at all This can be important when at a lower smithing level if you are not planning to max out due to the grind or because of limited attribute points. The one above with pummel is only 144 difficulty.

I have a couple of unrelated questions, can I ask them here? I think you might be able to figure out a way to answer these for me. Do NPC's get skill points from tournaments that are resolved off-camera? That is, if you skip a match, or where a tournament is resolved in places you aren't at, does it work the same as when you see a companion racking up skill points? I expect the answer is yes but I would like to be sure. Second question: I wonder why lords don't sell all their prisoners immediately? I speculate that when a prisoner is sold, they return either to some sort of recruiting pool, or to their place of origin, the village or town from where they were originally raised. So holding prisoners prevents them from going home and being re-raised by an enemy lord. That sounds like the kind of thing Taleworlds would do. Anyway, these are just some thoughts I had and it occurred to me you might even enjoy chasing them down, but if not, feel free to ignore them.
@Flesson19
Жыл бұрын
first for tournaments, from what I understand they do get xp but there is a 66% penalty in vanilla which is why you dont see much unless I see the tournament ends on its own. TW code. From what I understand when prisoners are sold off to ranom broker they just disappear and are gone. there is no way they are put back into a pool of anykind. That is why I hold so many prisoners ready to recruit since the pool is limited.

This is with some skill in trade so I don’t know what the base skill is, but you can make a two handed pointed (I think - might be star) falchion, that sells for 10.6k for 7 wrought iron, might be 1 iron as well - I’d have to check. I think it might be 6 and 1, and the return is 7 if you dismantle it for exp. It’s not the most expensive or the most experience, but it’s a very cost efficient weapon for both. I can look up what I used exactly. I like trying to find the top things I can do without fine steel or thamaskene because they go very quick. It’s also good to have alternatives that don’t need wood, because you can burn through several thousand wood in no time. My consistent semi cheap but higher exp and money item is a polearm with the menavlion head with the throwing shaft, fine steel butt cap and steel brace gives you around 37k and good experience as well. Seems like the Voulge head is high exp too, but cost 4 fine steel, so I think the falx is better at the cost.

What sort of weapon loadout do you recommend for different scenarios? Mounted combat, thrusting polearm, couchable with shield or swing polearm? Or do you go 1-2 handed weapon with less reach when the melee gets bogged down? (Because otherwise would bounce off teammates), or (cross)bow Gangfights in town, do you go throwing weapon for quick kills? maybe a spear for the reach and jump around terrain? Do you go 2H axe for crush through and hitting multiple enemies? Prison breaks, do you take a small dagger as anything with a bit of reach will bounce off the walls? Or do you to full throwing weapons? Or maybe a spear since thrusts won't have wall issues? Sieges, do you just go bow and arrow, or bring a shield for cover? Probably have the same wall block as prisonbreak in the gatehouse What about field battles? Take javelins for high value targets? A falx blade that has an easier time chewing through shield wall?

Also could I request a test? Given that the guard pieces measure the length of the piece but not the length it adds to your reach due to the attachment point for the blade being below the quillon points for some parts I have a theory that grip length may not actually increase effecting striking reach. If the models are programmed to have the hands attach to the weapon model near the top of the grip then increasing the grip size would have negligible impact on real weapon reach despite showing a longer weapon reach in the smithing stats. I'm not exactly sure how this could be tested. You would need to have a target that didn't move which rules out fighting the AI, you would need target dummies somewhere. Smith two weapons, one where you use a max size grip and one where you use the same parts but you put the grip size to minimum and increase the blade length so that the weapon reach stat is the same and then test if there is an actual difference in striking reach.

For your civilian 2H sword what is the reason for the cusped western guard? On paper it has decent length but because the length is measuring from the base of the guard to the tips of the quillons which stick out it doesn't actually add that much reach. It seems like a better part would be the T5 Pointed Crescent Guard. Despite the stats saying it is a shorter part it actually increases your length to 121 at max size and weighs less which increases speed and handling while only reducing damage 2 points. Also strange issue, for me to match your weapon stats in game I have to leave the fians pommel at default size despite your screen showing it max size.
@Flesson19

Random question: I'm already proficient with "one hand" and "bow". I'm thinking of investing in another skill for melee: two handed or polearms. In the first case, I understand that it would be useful to be versatile with one and two hands with the same weapon and have a chance to fight closer enemies (which is more often). The polearms please me for the cavalry, occasional spearmen and the fact that it is a weapon with a different use and reach than classic "one hand". Could anyone help?

The polearm is amazing for the reach in campaign maps, you can hit them but they cant hit you, for sieges I use a 2H axe, shorter, hits multiple enemies and double shield breaker perks are awesome. I use those 2 and not a 1H sword
@voyager667
Жыл бұрын
I ended up investing in all three, because they have very useful perks that affect not only focus weapon (for example thick hides from 2h tree). I also assign my character to formation with infantry without shields( menavlitons, falxman, heroic line breakers), and they have different weapons, so all captain perks are good for this. For use on foot, try menavlion(Regular), it’s perfect infantry polearm imo.
