Wonderful to hear dialog with those who actually knew Jeremy. Leaves one with the sensation of living the acquaintance vicariously. Your podcasts are delightful. Thanks Any progress on posthumous BAFTA award for Mr Brett?

If there was so much food on sets I wonder how could Jeremy be (and stay) so slim in that first series? And thank you very much for your wonderful podcasts! They are really interesting.

I think he not infrequently restricted himself from eating....I seem to remember he was very disciplined to retain that look....At the time it might have seen bizarre or odd...but now it would be seen as intermittant fasting and he would have burned body fat for energy going into ketosis....who knew he was nearly 35 yrs ahead of the curve!

I am still endeavoring to catch up as I only recently discovered this podcast but could not help but skip ahead to listen to this. I love the interviews that go along with the reviews of each episode. When this is completed, it will be something I will repeat listen to over and over again, much like to original series. Well done! Keep up the good work!

One of my dozen or so favorites. Barbara was lovely in the part as were all the others. Just watched it yesterday in fact, and as always found myself quoting the dialogue which is a nasty habit that gets me a lot of "shushes" when watching them in company. Thanks for this wonderful interview with Ms Wilshere who didn't look any plumper at all in any of her scenes.

On daily in the UK presently, just sat doon with a bowl of porridge to watch today's episode.."Shoscombe Old Place" One of the best... Love your podcast as this has been a favourite show of mine since it first aired when I was at school, He really is the Quintessential Holmes, and the episodes have really stood the test of time remarkably well.. (Had to laugh while typing, when Holmes had a little pop at Mrs. Hudson..."My eggs were hard boiled!") keep up the good work, the series definitely deserves these companion pieces and Jeremy Brett deserves all the praise you can heap upon him, he absolutely killed it, will always be my Holmes, when I read the novels... its him I see in my mind eye... brilliant..

Terrific show, cannot thank you enough. For me, something curious happened: The Granada episodes get better every time I watch them. The attention to detail is stunning, the acting wonderful. There is just one thing missing for my complete happiness: A provider that offers the episodes as downloads (paid, of course) or a streaming service that has the series.

Right here's the business with Carruthers explained. here's the hero of the novel The Riddle of the Sands: the model for the clean cut, square jawed English hero. By the time of the Holmes show his values were held in ridicule even contempt, hence the sniggering about Carruthers. Even by the thirties mockery was apparent as Peter Fleming wrote of his decline: 'Old Etonion braces gleam through a matchseller's rags. An Authentics blazer shows for the moment between the noisome portals of an opium den. A beachcomber quotes Horace between hiccoughs. "Don't look, my dear" says our hero as he ushers the heroine into a wating taxi or rickshaw or dhow. "Why not?" she asks girl like. "That was Carruthers" said our hero huskily, "I didn't want to let him know we saw".

What a sweet lady. When she said "Avuncular", that made me chuckle. I always thought she was extremely brave, confronting the man who was following her in the 'Solitary Cyclist'. You wouldn't do that these days! Certainly, a stand out episode indeed and all the better for having her in it

I'm watching the episode at this moment. One of my favorites. I first read Conan Doyle when I was twelve, and read through all the Holmes stories several times over the years, Brett played the best Holmes, and Violet Smith a brave client.
