The Gunny side kick is awesome & comfortable in the hand. Mines is in Magnacut and it is a phenomenal slicer. I love the Blade and the handle. For all out Bush rafting I still stick with my Bravo in 3 V.

Bark River is definitely top-notch brother. I have never heard of anyone having an issue with any bark River and they can definitely take a beating and their warranty is incredible as well.

This is old but think it’s unfair to BRK. The gunny is there smallest of the Bravo line. The Bravo 1 has a full size handle. The slick handle was what he picked. You can get it in desert iron wood or sure grip or smooth micarta 100s of choices. The best way to sharpen is a bench top polishing wheel. That’s the way they do it at BRK. Just got the full sized Bravo 1 LT in Magnacut. Thanks for all your videos your one of my top channels for knife reviews. Just felt that this review was out of context to the BRK line up.

When I have a knife with a slimmer handle like this one, I don't grip it in my palm, I lay it across the callus line right behind the fingers. It gives a secure grip, and allows better control of the blade. I do a lot of carving on wood, and the blade control I get gripping it like that is better than gripping it in my palm. They do offer them in matte finish micarta, as well as many other materials. You'd probably like the handles on their Bravo line better. They are beefier and more hand filling that the Gunny line.

I have a pre order that just got done that’s in magnacut hellfire burl maple with mosaic pins I have a week left to pay for it. 345 bux though. It was originally when pre order was made to be in cruwear but they couldn’t get any 5/32 blade stock so the went to magnacut. Idk if I want to buy it.

With the hole at back of knife, one work around would be to use paracord to make loop with slip knot where you cinch down around your hand while it is holding the knife (wrist/hand lanyard)

Hey I have the prototype of this knife signed by ApostleP and it is the one that he actually ground himself while at Escanaba finalizing the design with Bark River and mine in M4 also which I've found to be quite chippy if you do sharpen it to a real razors edge🤦♂️ 🤷🏻♂️

That is a great companion knife. I believe that is its intended purpose. I really like Bark River and LT Wright knives. They actually got me into spending more than 30 dollars and beating the hell out of the knife. It was from them that I began seeing folding knife channels. My guess is that it will do anything you would want a companion knife to do and more. Great review shame it didn't make it out the first time and also you can buy danglers for their knives.

I agree its a great companion knife, i guess they have these with more grippy handles which i think would improve it a bit imo, and having quality tools is very important its the difference between a tool that just keeps on working and a tool that starts to show damage a wear very quickly and eventually breaks. Couldnt tell you how many hammers ive broken on job sites, but ive never broken an eastwing

Love the blade but I’m on the fence due to the small-ish handle size as you mentioned. They don’t appear beefy enough for a working camp knife if you’ve got bigger mitts as I do.

The really great thing about Bark River is that they make lots of different models. The Gunny sidekick is one of their smaller knives but something like the Bravo 1 might be more to your liking as its a full sized knife: www.knivesshipfree.com/bark-river-knives-bravo-1-dark-curly-maple-red-liners-1/

I guess theres a matt version thats a bit grippier, this ones controllable but still slick, although its extremely easy to rough the surface up a bit to give more traction

@@NeevesKnives right on. Ive watched a lot of vids on BarkRiver blades but dont own 1 or kno anyone who does&have always thought they were killer lookin but dont like a slick handle blade. For my fixed camp/survival blades i have gone with ESSE5&IZULA ll. I like the idea that no matter what if i break it theyll send me another. Im hard on knives&expect them to put up with what i dish out.

Ive been thinking about buying a bark river or an lt Wright .Which would you recommend?
@timbo4374
3 жыл бұрын
It depends on what your using it for, as well as your preferences. Both make outstanding knives. Bark River does convex grinds on all their knives, and they offer more handle material options, as well as more different kinds of knives.. LT Wright offers more grind options..scandi, saber, or full flat. LT Wrights in general will cost less as well, although some of their options can get pretty steep too.

@@jeremynedrow7003 If you like convex edges, every knife Bark River makes has a convex, even their scandi grinds. Nobody does them better, but if you prefer a regular v edge, go with LT. I love my Bark Rivers, but honestly, my favorite bushcrafter is my LT Wright GNS. Most of his knives are geared toward bushcraft, although he does do some smaller edc blades, and a couple goodhunter/ skinners. You really can't go wrong with either one. I'd just look at both, and pick one that looks good to you.
