Contrary to other comments, I think Ryan O'Neal is fine in this role and this scene. Ryan's range is very limited, but so is his character's, kind of like Keanu Reeves in The Matrix. He's a cipher who advances through an unfamiliar world through tricks & deception. He should be hard to read.

The Sir Charles actor dissolves in all his decadence in front of our very eyes. Dying as an insult to aristocracy, so death becomes an implosion. Brilliant acting. O'Neal: not bad acting but really bad casting. Because he was a star. Kubrick didn't care about stars, the studios did. Ideally, they would have needed a Brit.

Do you really think a master like Kubrick wouldn't utilise Ryan's weakness for a strength of the movie? It's clearly exemplifying the nature of Redmond's imposter nature of infiltrating into the upper class by luck through good looks
@lizclegg7556
Жыл бұрын
You can all keep justifying Ryan O'Neal's casting as an impostor playing an impostor, and maybe that was the intention, but watching the film as a film I think it takes away from its effectiveness in itself. Ryan O'Neal was a box office draw and I don't think any of the actors in this were.
