My Uncle on my father's side, arrived in California in the 30's from Dust Bowl Oklahoma with three other guys in a car. After working as a mechanic for McDonald Douglas, he retired to Barstow from Hawthrone, in the 80's, Another Uncle, on my mother's side, went to Califronia in the 30's from Oklahoma, and after a stint in the Navy, got a degree and worked as a Quality Inspector for McDonald Douglas. He was an outdoors-man, and he had a beard and drove a VW camper van in the 60's, long before any hippies did. He hunted deer, with, a traditional bow and arrow.

Hi Mike,I'm associated with the creator/executive producer of the mid 1970's NBC TV series Movin'On.This was a trucking show filmed on location in the Western and Eastern United States from July 1974 to December 1975.One episode was shot in Las Vegas.Episode title is "High Roller" [lots of semi truck action!] Scenes were filmed at the old International truck dealership at 4838 Dean Martin Drive right at Tropicana Avenue and I-15.That dealership was once beside "In and Out burger". [At 47.55 mark in your video on left you see their large sign.] ....Enjoying riding shotgun with you!....Check out the series here on KZitem=MOVIN'ON...Season 1 and 2.

I don't remember how I found your channel, but it reminds me of riding with my late husband, I loved him, and I loved jumping in the truck with him. I even helped him load unload, tarp, strap, whatever needed to be done, even reaching out the passenger window to wipe down the mirror..... I really miss it. She tought me how to choose the right direction wiothout any GPS, map or compass in my hands. So, I'm able to just have a look on the map before my ride and then I go to the final point without any help of that smart devices.

The Marine Corps base at the beginning is the Yermo Annex of the Marine Corps Logistics Base Barstow. The facility used to store all equipment for Pacific operations of the Corps, but I believe some of that has been transferred to Albany, GA. There long has been major rebuild operations conducted at Barstow and the annex, from small arms to tanks. Good way to start the video.

I love the idea of the t-shirts. As I read another commenter, that was my idea too was to show the snowy hills...maybe with a road sign on that favorite highway of yours (70??). Regarding the snow driving. When I worked for CalTrans my husband and I watched "Ice Haul Truckers" or something like that.....and "Dangerous Highways". I am probably not accurate on the names, both were on TV. CalTrans email directed us to watch "Dangerous Highways" as tow-truck drivers were featured pulling out cars that wrecked on Hwy 50 and/or 80. Very nice, seeing signs with the Ten Commandments heading into Vegas. Now that is an appropriate place to put them. Funny, yesterday I got into a little back and forth on Twitter with a guy talking about the UN peacekeepers fathering children from younger than 16 year-old girls. I told him this went on in Vietnam (and probably other times) with our troops and I told him he should read the Bible about morals. He quoted me legal information about they could face 20 years. I told him to read the Ten Commandments.....(the sentence is greater). Hey, again you were in my general area....or maybe it is part of the same trip. I know there isn't much beauty in driving the central valley on 99 or highway 5, but just give us (me) a quick commentary on the traffic or any highlights (don't laugh). I wish I could recommend a good restaurant for you to stop at but the ones I know a trucker probably couldn't park near...several (Chevy's) on River Road in Sacramento or Joe's Crab Shack in Old Sac. Have you been to Harris Ranch down south?

34:30 I heard you mentioning pre-planning. Good idea. Back in 1993 when I rode with hubby for a year, he had a load out of New Jersey, going to some place in Southern California. As with you, I was raised in SoCal, only a few miles from Walnut in fact. Anyway, this was before GPS and/or Google Maps.... we did have Qualcomm but the directions would not come up until we got into SoCal. Finally, we did and the directions came up.... something in City of Industry. Fine. "Take Valley Blvd to Francisquito..." NOPE! It had been 14 years since I'd lived there but I KNEW those two are parallel. So I directed hubby off the freeway at Valley Blvd and to take such and such a road to Francisquito, and then we got the side road we needed and arrived at the customer. They were shocked to see us already. "We can come back," hubby said. "Oh, no, we need the product." "OK, lemme back up to your dock." (It was very small and would be a tight fit). "Hold on, we'll come get the stuff." They came out with a forklift that was carrying a pallet jack. Put the pallet jack in the trailer, they moved the pallets back for the forklift, it got them, took them inside, then got the pallet jack and they were done! I asked them why they were surprised. "Well, everyone else gets lost getting here." That's when I knew not to trust the directions the dispatcher gave.

In Louisiana, if you’re not going +10 mph over the posted speed limit, troopers won’t generally write you a ticket...the judges don’t want to be bothered with a piddlin’ amount over that drivers will contest. The courts are already overloaded with legit crimes, etc.
