A couple of years ago my Father-in-law was in the hospital and things were looking dire and we did a last minute drive from Wyoming to Fresno, California on Memorial day. The traffic from just outside of Primm, until Barstow was barely crawling. We were stuck in that mess for hours and hours. Thank goodness we saw it coming and we gassed up and hit the restrooms before we got into it, because they had all the rest stops closed for remodeling and people were just peeing on the side of the highway. Watched your video to see if your route would get us around that crazy faster if we find ourselves in that situation again. We head back to Fresno once or twice a year, we try and time it so that were not going through Vegas towards Bakersfield on a Sunday or a holiday Monday for just that reason. Glad the cop only gave you a verbal warning, seems to me if they don't have their sign up then you shouldn't be at fault for taking a back road you weren't supposed to be on. How could you know that it was closed to commercial traffic, but you know California has to get their money. So happy we moved out that that horrible state.

Thank you for such a beautiful peaceful ride....even though you almost got a ticket. We have been to Mojave Desert before (oddly enough going to Tehachapi to appear for my husband's log book violation or speeding ticket which had a good outcome). People wanting to come to Mojave want to come at a good window of time...not in the heat of summer or the times of flooding. If you time it right after a heavy rainy season you can see all the wild flowers in bloom. We saw a few when we were there. Ok, I am realizing in my old age that we need to listen to what is driving us certain directions. Don't you feel it is strange to be pulled over by someone that lived so close to you? Maybe you were destined to meet. Maybe she is single. Just saying. Or this little delay in your schedule saved you from an awful fate. Sometimes these little coincidences are like a marker for you to take notice of something. I can go on and on about my little coincidences.....like 2 KZitemrs that I discovered later may be connected to people I know or my husband and I ending up in our little country home....as someone says....there are no coincidences. Drive safe.....stay tuned in to the little coincidences of life.

US441 goes thru Great Smokey Mountains NP from Cherokee to Gatlinburg. Its a US highway, but they have huge electronic signs warning "no commercial vehicles". Last time I was there, I saw a Eastbound Semi pulled over by the park police right at the Oconaluftee Visitor Center at Cherokee. Had made it all the way across and almost out of the park when they got caught. Lots of bear, elk, and turkey on the roadway, plus several switchbacks, and one complete 360 loop, plus its a 3000 ft or so climb to the ridge and then back down. No place for a truck. But there WERE signs. For you, no signs, what can they say?

Why didn't you just continue on 95 south, it goes into California and meets up with I-40 near Needles. Seems like it would have been faster than a couple back roads.
