If you are worried about food being available in the next year, don't start stocking up on foods that are packaged for 30 years, start building your stocks on food good for 2 to 5 years and rotate through it as you build. You can build your pasta, beans, rice, and meat as you rotate and quickly build up for not much more of a grocery bill.

Easy, frugal meals for the inexperienced cook: Rolled oats + powdered milk + sugar or honey + hot water = mix together and let steep 10 minutes or longer for a frugal and nutritious breakfast. Can also add ground cinnamon and some raisins or dried cranberries. One fried egg + one slice cheese + two slices bread + a little mayonnaise = a high protein sandwich for lunch or breakfast. Can toast the bread first, or not. One package of dried ramen noodles prepared + 1/2 cup frozen mixed vegetables microwaved + one cooked egg sliced or chopped or one small can of tuna or chicken, then drain off the salty ramen broth, mix in the veggies and the animal protein = a nutritious and frugal meal.

Alaska granny just spoke a few episodes back on dollar tree potato gnocchi. I used mccormicks stroganoff sauce mic with sour cream and 4 ounces of ground beef. A little meat goes along way towards convincing oneself that u have a full meal. Think it cost me $4-5 for four to five servings. $1 per person. I live alone so five days of food for dinner. @lisal.766

My food preparedness has taken on different objectives through the years. 5 years ago I only had stored a month's worth of dehydrated meals. Then started adding only cheap long term types of foods like rice and beans just to get stored as much food as possible before a major event happened. Then the past 2 years I've been rounding out everything.... only when its on sale and only the items I really like and currently use like canned chicken and ham, chunky soups, chef boyardee , stews, spices, powder milk, pasta & jarred sauce, various bouillon flavors (So I can turn all those beans into soups).... i stock as much as i normally use and rotate during each item's BB date. Added mashed potato flakes, cream of wheat, quick oats.... all dried items are stored in mylar bags w/oxygen obsorbers and sealed in plastic containers. To my stock i added canned tomatoes, soy sauce and a variety of ethnic spices (to flavor all that rice.) And focused on adding items that i would need to make specific dishes like cream of mushroom soup and canned red peppers to make chicken ala king with all that canned chicken, cranberry sauce to turn the Hormel Compleates turkey & dressing, mashed potatoes (with all those potato flakes I stored) into a delicious feast! And grated cheese for all that pasta and sauce i stored along with Italian dressing to make a canned 3 bean salad ..... another delicious meal altogether! I've now started concentrating on morale types of food that i eat and keep rotating like mini candy bars, peanut butter crackers, pudding cups, hot cocoa mix, cold cereal (to eat with all that powder milk), and recently rediscovered Pringles!!! There are so many flavors now and have a BB date of at least a whole year! I had no idea! So happy to now be able to munch on "chips" when SHTF!!! I've got water covered too of course. BTW if u like Campbell's chunky soups some varieties have a great sale on- buy $30 worth and get $10 off on amazon! For anyone who hasn't been prepping for years nor have the funds..... it's never too late to start, every can or lb of rice is at least another meal that u will have that u wouldn't have if u didn't do anything for SHTF. And it adds up fast! ✌❤💪

Peanut butter and jelly with crackers or bread makes a great lunch or snack cheap meal. Even peanut butter and banana if you like that. There are so many cheap easy meals that we just don't eat anymore. I mean, tomato sandwiches, tuna, chicken, or even egg salad sandwiches are super easy and inexpensive. We don't have to eat like kings all the time. I eat avocado sandwiches too. I mean, I will take leftover spaghetti and make a sandwich out of that with butter on the bread. Also leftover meatloaf makes a delicious sandwich too. I turn a lot of my leftovers into soups that I will eat for lunches. Meals do not have to be complicated especially when things are tight. Another way to combat hunger is to start fasting for at least one meal of the day. I never eat breakfast. I used to only ever just eat dinner, but now I do eat lunch. It has never hurt me to miss a meal and really I never missed it at all. I never ate it to begin with. Cut out snacks for pets too. I don't give my pets snacks all the time, so when they do get them it is a real treat to them. This may sound harsh, but hard times calls for tough measures. I also do not just allow my pets to have food all the time. I give them food and when they finish I take the bowl away, just like we do. They have a meal time and they eat then. And I also adjust my dogs weight by her food. If she is too thin, I give her an extra half portion of her meal in the evening and after a week or so she will gain some weight. But if she is fine, she eats once a day. I don't know how many people know this but 1 cup of dog food is good for every 20 pounds of a dogs weight. So if a dog is supposed to weigh 60 pounds they should get 3 cups of dry food per day. And this measurement is supposed to be for the dogs intended weight not the actual weight. If they are overweight, you should feed them only what they should weigh, so if your dog weights 20 pounds and it is only supposed to weigh 10 pounds you should only be feeding him half a cup of food. I feed my dog both a good dry food mixed with homemade food. Hope that this can help someone out there that may be struggling with ideas.

Thank you, AG for always providing helpful information and important reminders. One trip to the grocery store, and most of us seem to agree that prices have escalated. What we may not see so clearly is the impact on the economy on many of our neighbors. Leaving the store today, I saw an increase in what appeared to be people living in their vehicles. There were about 3 or 4 separate vehciles, each keeping a low profile and just trying to find some respite from today's sun and heat. Recalling the sudden changes we experienced in 2020, it just makes sense to do whatever we can to put some $ aside and keep some food stored. Even just a little bit put aside can make a difference. Hugs to you and Little Teddy.
