Another great video! This series has been so helpful for understanding the nuances of recording different instruments, and I've learned a lot about Audio-Technica's mics as I go along. Thank you for making these Audio-Technica!

I know it's late for an answer but you can achieve great sound with almost any condenser cardioid microphone aimed at the body roughly the same height as the mouthpiece (and off-axis). Add a SM57 (or 58, depends on the type of sax and player) aimed to the bell and mixing them both can achieve good results. I know it's tedious work but hey, we poor people have to do what we have to do :P

great recordings require great mics. You can try to use an SM57 or something similar, but the results using a cheaper mic for brass instruments will be lackluster.

Looks like a Mark VI to me. Body-brace ring looks like Selmer, not Yamaha; high E key is "flat;" no high F-sharp key; front F key is a pearl, rather than a metal "tear drop;" I think I can make out a Selmer logo on the bell.

The soprano sax is NOT "unique in its straight-line configuration". There are a several versions of straight alto and tenor saxophones on the market. There is also a "sopranino" sax which is straight.
@saxofonistacr

it was the only, and still is the only popular straight sax of the 4 most common saxophones bari tenor alto soprano. sure there are straight altos and tenors made, but they are not at all common.

All sounded really bad. I heard much better sounding things from a nasty sure 57, not sure what the problem was, but this demo really sucks
