Very nicely put together. I worked in Parkgate Road Battersea in the 1980s.....too late to see many of these landmarks....but I grew to like Battersea in the years I worked there. And I enjoyed Pie & Mash in Battersea High Street. Sadlly by that time, Battersea was changing and had lost something on the way, as all places seem to these days. Thanks for uploading this.

I have very strong memories of 'Jays' on St John Hill. The best sweet shop in the borough! Proper old fashioned with jar after jar of multi-coloured sugary kid heaven stacked behind the counter! Of course that was long before some idiot that can't read a map decided that Clapham Junction is in 'Clapham'! The arguments I've had over that over the years since I left! I went to Joseph Tritton School too! Then on to Spencer Park. And my first ever job was as an Apprentice Painter and Decorator with Wandsworth Borough Council. In 1977 [my first year out of school] we did all the housefronts in Rowditch Lane! Maybe I did your front door! And where you say we didn't miss the smell of those factories [I still have nightmares about that 'once smelt never forgotten' stench from Gartons] I've long had the theory that if they were still there then the rich gits wouldn't have ever been interested in 'buying the borough', wouldn't have moved in and we'd still all be home and in our proper community! All gone now. And very sadly, so is the old 'Battersea' identity. People ask me where I'm from these days and when I say 'Battersea' they suddenly think I must be some rich snob, they don't believe me when I tell them about 'real' Battersea and WHO we are. Thank you so much for these memories.

I went Joseph Tritton too when we lived in Tritton Street (before moving to Rowditch Lane). I also hate it when people say 'Clapham' my old house in Harbut Rd cost £6,000 in 1975 now almost £1M lol.

@@iTrackR100 I was looking at places back there [I live in Cornwall now] on the 'Right Move' website. Couldn't believe what I was seeing! A PENTHOUSE on Surrey Lane for £10,000,000! I know the worlds gone a bit mad in the last 30 odd years but 10 million for SURREY LANE????? And thinking about it, I can't ever remember hearing anyone call it 'Clapham' Junction at all. It was always just The Junction! Still. Nice to connect to someone from up home way. Hope your life treats you well and thanks for stirring up some old memories. You take care.

I can only agree with all what you say, a lot of these newcomers would not even come anywhere near Battersea at one time. I remember a sweet shop where you say probably the same one I used to go to. I lived on the old East Hill Estate, Falmouth House and also went to Spencer Park about the same time as you

@@vincentdeguard4726 if returning glass bottles was to return it would cut down on plastic consumption, and the return of the milk man would also have the same effect.
