I gotta say, I'm a fan of Novak. Hearing him proclaim that 2,756 Novaks had died by those hands for that Novak to stand before was...honestly earnestly acted and the way he gestured at his hands conveyed some sincerity? That actor was earnestly trying and doing something there.

If Decker had a PO box that we could mail suggestion DVDs to, the inside of that PO box would be such a hellish, lovecraftian horror that you’d need a hazmat suit and three federal permits just to open it. Somebody would also definitely mail him every Asylum movie, just to see what he would do.

The CGI is great. But those ship shots could have been done using Practical Effects. I would rather see a model ship over CGI any day.

Yeah Asylum does have the odd shiny stone among the garbage heap. this one does in look decent and it's one of the few I haven't seen so thats something I have to look forward to. Good work as always Decker

Hi Decker. By any chance, have you ever reviewed "Battle Beyond the Stars"(1980)? If not, I think you'd like it a lot. It's a Roger Corman production science fiction version of "The Seven Samurai/The Magnificent Seven" that had George Peppard, John Saxon, An early soundtrack by James Horner, designs and effects by James Cameron. It's a lot of fun, my friend. Peace.

IDK, a weapon that generates "slow"-(less than the speed of sound) moving electrostatic force "push" might not make much sound at all. The effect in the this movie, is probably closer to reality, than all the "spings, zings, -phaser and laser blasts" " in other movies , and is quite novel, IMO..

23:08 - 23:23 Well, they finally did it. Asylum managed a mockbuster more credible than Eragon (2006), which itself was basically fantasy Star Wars. Dragon Riders = Jedi, Eragon = Luke Skywalker, Aria the Elf = Princess Leia, Brom the Hermit = Obi-Wan Kenobi, Durza the Shade = Darth Vader, King Galbatorix = The Emperor. Need I go on?

That’s just the hero’s journey. Not saying it’s not derivative, but there are millions of stories that have the base hero’s journey character outlines, Star Wars being among them. But it certainly wasn’t even close to the first.

the best "star wars" movie is Hardware Wars! its one of the first parodies of star wars made back in the 70s/80s when there was only one star war movie around. made entirely (mostly entirely) in the guy's garage

Another Star Wars inspired mockbuster that you might enjoy is Roger Coreman’s Battle Beyond The Stars. It’s essentially The Magnificent Seven In Space. Maybe you could review it next year, if you’re not going to be reviewing any more ACTUAL Star Wars movies.

@@zigfaust it’s really good despite its low budget. Granted it was probably Roger Coreman’s most expensive movie (I think it had a budget of about $1million or $2million, way more than most of his films but way less than any of the Star Wars movies). He managed to get some excellent, relatively well known actors, and the sets and visual effects were pretty good too. It’s a really fun movie. I would watch it whenever it came on TV when I was a kid.
