Bare with me, this is the first time I've done this: Decker... Saw Gurrera was a Rebel. Not an Imperial. He lead the 'Partisans' Cell. A group considered 'too extreme' for the Rebellion as a whole given he did what most civilized people don't in war. (prime example was something that happened in one of the books that went into detail over the events before the movie actually took place)

Yeah.. I messed up. That part of Jyn's backstory was a bit confusing. :/ Saw Galen talking with Saw, saw Jyn talking about being part of Saw's unit, saw Saw talking about how "others figuring out who she is" and figured that's only really an issue if she's hiding among imperials. Dangit.

@thecoffeeisblack
6 жыл бұрын
+Decker Shado Saw Gerrera's group is not working for the imperials! They are a separate cell or faction of rebels who's methods are considered too extreme for the rebel alliance to consider working under most circumstances. You see this in the movie, they are endangering civilians during their street battle and that is why Cassian Andor shoots the guy lobbing grenades into the street, because Jyn is trying to save a kid and that guy would have killed her and the kid. While it's most likely true that Cassian only cared about Jyn because she is vital to the mission, these guys are most decidedly not imperials, when I hear you say that over and over again it makes me think you didn't watch the movie, or maybe that you watched it while high. If your confusion comes from fact that some of Garrera's group are wearing scout and storm trooper helmets, that is because they are a group that has no uniforms of their own and when you are on the run, armor of any kind is hard to come buy, I would also bet that it counts as somewhat of a war trophy for the people who have killed troopers. This movie and the Rebels TV show have been partly elaborating on the details of the way a rebellion works, that there are usually multiple factions and not all of them will work together or have matching ideals despite having the same enemies. Think less black and white/good vs evil and more Syrian conflict or even World War 2 with underground groups like the French Resistance and Jewish Resistance in Nazi occupied territory. The original trilogy painted a picture of a very cut and dry fantasy conflict where all the good guys worked on one side and all the bad guys worked on the other, and it didn't bother talking about other groups working on their own for their own goals and methods. Real war doesn't work that way, and this movie is trying to illustrate that in at least one small way, though a text crawl may have helped I guess. Even the American Revolution had points where secondary rebellions and in fighting almost took place on the American side, especially when congress failed to properly supply Washington's army because of general incompetence and political rivalry with Washington and his supporters. As a result Washington mostly had to commandeer provisions and other supplies from local American townsfolk, this pissed off the people because they didn't like having the army steal their shit, and the US almost had a violent rebellion against it's own army take place as a result.

Yeah. It was my biggest gripe about this movie (and the current trend for movies). There was zero need for the CGI Tarkin and Leia. They should ahve simply cast Charles Dance as Tarkin and Carrie Fisher's daughter as Young Leia. That would've made the movie go from good to f'ing fantastic.

I think this review was a bit harsh. For example the cassian arc was to show that the rebellion needed to bad things and that the war with the empire is dirty. His informant with possible compromising intel was literally about to crack if put under imperial interrogation. His actions showed the darker cloak and dagger parts of the rebellion that are often not explored. I think maybe this might be me giving it to much, but the characters were not important per say but what they did. I think the movie did a really good job of showing how hard it was to fight the empire, at the end of the day they got the plans but it came at a cost. Spaceballs stuff was super funny.

Rogue One doesn't really get going until the film reaches Scarif. The first two acts of the film were a bit sluggish and uneven, but the third act is great. I enjoyed the final space battle in Rogue One far more than the bland and uninspired space battle in The Force Awakens. But a great third act doesn't make up for the two weaker acts before it. Two out of five from me, with two stars for K-2SO, Darth Vader, and the Scarif battle, with three stars off for an otherwise forgettable cast of characters, the first two acts being far weaker than the third act, and the dubious attempt to explain away the Death Star's exhaust port weakness.

The part where Cassian kills people can be explained. This is the dark side of the rebellion. When he kills his informant, it's to keep the Empire from capturing someone who could lead them back to Yavin 4. This is also the reason why the rebel ships bombed the Imperial Research facility after they lost contact with Cassian; imagine if the Empire interrogated him. The point is that the Rebellion is in a precarious position and is desperately trying to hold on. I would give this film a 4/5 because it vaguely reminded me of Halo Reach in a thematic sense. Both that game and this movie had a theme of sacrifice and hope leading to similar endings where our heroes die, but thanks to their actions and sacrifice, eventually other heroes win. Jin's job wasn't to save the day, it was only to make sure that Luke Skywalker could.

I have to disagree totally, this is a great film, at least 4/5, if not 5/5, right up to the original trilogy and 10x better than Force Awakens and Last Jedi. 4/5? No. 5/5? HELL NO!!!! The leads were boring. The plot was just okay. The acting was also just okay. The only fun thing about it was the droid and the only exiting thing about it was the Vader scene. Erso having to be forced into the mission then being the only one who cares about it is a unexpected, and un earned heel turn . Saw just ....decided to quit, right when things were kind of looking up. An overall bland and uninspiring movie. Not a "bad " movie, but not a very "good" one either.

Ummm... there was no ships on the ground they could have gotten too, Rogue One was blown up, several other shuttles were damaged, the sky was full of Tie Strikers and Tie Reapers (which I assume GTFOed when the death star fired) Yeeeeah... there was no escape for anyone on the ground. Also Cassian shot the rebel to prevent him from falling into Imperial hands as he couldn't climb to the escape point. The guy was either going to be tortured to death by the Imps, divulging his secrets or he could die right then and there. Saw and Jyn were NEVER Imperials. They worked as terrorists blowing up civilian and military targets like a space IRA. And Bodhi went from a chicken shit, trying to do the right thing, to heroically sacrificing himself to save the day. You uh...should seriously rewatch this movie man. Also the effects were really fricken' good, with the most realistic looking mass fleet battle in Star Wars and the cgi on Carrie Fisher and Peter Cushing was so good they looked real enough to touch.

Yo, Decker. As always thanks for the awesome review. Kudos to Inkheart on explaining that Saw Gurrera wasn't working with the Empire but in far a very extremist Rebel cell. He was introduced back in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Season 5, Ep.1 - "A War on Two Fronts." You have made an interesting points how some scenes mirror (or pay homage, inadvertently) to SpaceBalls (which was a spoof on Star Wars Episode IV). And lastly, a lot of fans were unset about this movie being an annihilatist movie were all newly introduced main/support characters are wiped out. I remind people that it IS supposed to be a STAND-ALONE movie with NO possible sequel, because it jumps right into the opening scroll of Episode IV: A New Hope. The filmmakers made that point quite clear and, in my opinion, a great job!!! Keep up with the great work. And, reminder: May the force be with you... always!!!

They didn't escape from the planet because that wasn't the point of the movie. The point was to save the alliance and bring the plans that would create a new hope. Darth Vader had really good scenes where he showed how terrifying he was. All the characters had some unique qualities to him including the Burly bodyguard who is actually an Imperial exile. I loved how the monk was basically a Jedi just not 100%. The story was supposed to be dramatic because it was a suicide mission and nobody was expected to come back and kudos to the filmmakers for actually following through on that and not making it child friendly where everyone survives and it's a happy ending. I love your reviews man but you really washed over this movie and didn't give it the credit it deserves

As it is, your complaints about the space battle were pretty weak. It looks pretty damn good. Video gamey? First off that's a stupidly vague criticism. Second, only EA's bastard child Battlefront even comes close and lacks the level of detail on display here. My one complaint is the lighting they chose was a little too bright in certain shots. As for out right bad. No. No it's not. Also complaining that Star Destroyers are blown up by shooting them in the balls like in a game....which was pulled from the Return of the Jedi when they blasted the Executor in it's balls, lowering it's shields. But hey, don't actually give the movie any kind of credit where it is due.

Star wars died at episode 6 with the Ewoks. Episode 4 and 5 are the only good Star Wars movies. Episodes 1-3 were the worst. George Lucas killed Star Wars decades before "PC feminism" even existed.

ziljin episode 3 was good but could’ve been better, it had the best lightsaber duels in the entire series

ROTJ wrapped up the skywalker story perfectly. Luke tells Leia that she's his sister and that Vader is their father. Luke almost succumbing to the dark side to defeat Vader in order to protect his sister from being turned. Then he comes back, something Anakin didn't do 20 years prior. This showed Vader that Luke was right about there still being good in him, all along. And he sacrifices himself to save the life of his son.

I feel like he didn't understand the movie at all . The breaking point was when he said; "these characters did nothing that matters" . Lmao What?

I haven't watched the video yet, and I'm already looking forward to seeing what your thoughts are on this movie. Here we go! Post viewing - Yeah, I had similar viewpoints. I figured that you would come to this kind of conclusion. Another entertaining review.

Sometimes you can't let an asset end up in enemy hands, if you can't move your asset, you must destroy it. This movie put the war back in Star Wars.

Am I the only one to notice that the blind monk is Zatoichi? For those of you who don't know, Zatoichi was a blind masseuse and master sword fighter in a 60's movie that was so good that they made something like 26 sequels. I highly recommend these movies.

I liked this movie and actually liked that it didnt have the traditional text scroll. It wasnt your typical star wars movie and without the text scroll it felt like it.

While I didn't hate it, I was pretty Dissapointd in this movie, and its gotten pretty irritating that so many people have been saying this is the best of the newest SW movies and somekind of flawless. So seeing a nice objective review on it is refreshing

I never realized the comparisons to Spaceballs before. I can't unsee that now. Thanks for that. I would rather watch Spaceballs than Rogue One. The nostalgia bits, the EPIC ending with Darth Vader, and the special effects were good, and I liked K-2SO and Director Krennic, but other than that, it wasn't that great. I think it's better than Episodes I and II though.

Glad to see another person who wasn’t impressed with the film although I personally really liked most of the CGI... the face CGI wasn’t good. My biggest issue with the film was how little they cared to explain characters. I cared about no one in the film, they killed them each off like I’m suppose to as well. It is a soulless film made to make money off of the Star Wars brand... that final scene with Vader was amazing though!

The blind monk should have died in the city. In the fight scene it appears that one of the troopers (wearing a helmet that shields his face) is out of reach of the Monk's staff so the monk flicks dirt into his face, distracting him (the troopers actually covers his face) allowing the monk to move in and take him out.

I never really thought about the comparison to Space Balls. Sure enough, your right Decker. It's unbelievable that they inadvertently copied ideas from Mel Brooks. Mel is a genius though. Entertaining review. Thumbs up.

No Decker it's not a coincidence that they beat up the guards and took the uniforms like they did in space balls because that was a reference to a new hope when Han and Luke did that to stormtroopers

Low Setting makes sense since the Empire had to make sure that the Death Star worked before they use it to destroy Alderaan.

I still think this is the best Disney Star Wars film. It also helps that its aesthetic is very much Original Trilogy , even if it doesn't stick to Star Wars conventions.

I feel if you watch Rogue One in the sense of a war movie like The Green Berets or Dirty Dozen then it fits into Stars as a solid here's a battle/mission important to the over all war but not one of the big on its own game changers. Yes without this the Death Star couldn't be destroyed, but it isn't as important as the actual destruction.
