Yo my man, just dropped on your vid by chance. I have yet to delve into your other presentations, but that kind of beach looks awfully familiar. Sixty years ago, when I were nowt but a lad, I used to set hundred hook nightlines from just North of Gynn's Square (on small tides) to directly opposite Redbank Road on spring tides. That patch of beach was my playground. I gathered softback and peeler crabs from the various rock outcrops and dug Black lug at low water Springs, mainly off Bispham. Nice to bump into you.

Hello there what sort of knott you use to tie to your anchor or steak ? Brilliant videos you make mate
@nwcoastalfishing2172
Жыл бұрын
Hi Nicky, thank you again for your kind words. I use a number on knots. The main ones I use a half hitch or sheep knot with a loop, So that it can be undone easily, I also so use one called a clove hitch and I splice the ropes together rather than knotting them. I do a knot called an eye splice which is the rope woven back on itself. Hope this helps.👍

Hi mate , great video. I take it your out off Southport. I was just wondering as I would like to have a go with rod and line for the sole. What’s your biggest turbot you’ve had in your nets . Regards Mark

Hi mark, thank you for your feed back, i'm going to be rigging some nets for the turbot. The nets i use now allow the big fish to bounce off so not had big ones max 1.5 lbs at that size their under size anyway. I have had some nice sole off southport but tend to move around diffent beaches.

whats the best way to clear weed out of the nets iv a net absolutly covered in brown thick sticky weed
@nwcoastalfishing2172
Жыл бұрын
Hi pal, only just see your message sorry. If your useing a boat shoot your net in deep water for a few hour and let the tide run through it this tens to help. If your on the beach like i do the net will clean it's self on the flood/ebb tide, is the net weeded up when the tide gose out? If so it mite be best to bring your net in and hang it up to dry out in the sun and wind this also so aloue the weed to move out the area i the tide. Is it like algi, kelp,?

@@nwcoastalfishing2172 ya it's from the shore it's really brown sticky weed really hard to get out of the net , it really sticks into the mesh by the knots

how do you stop sea-trout swimming into it? i came from generations of gillnetters, disgusts me tbh i ever took part in it but i was a child then, they made licences so expensive in northern ireland its not worthwhile

I've never had any salmon or trout in my nets in the years i've been netting the beaches the meshes are to big, on the other hand i can't stop fish swimming into the net i have heard of them being caugh in 4"mesh when netting bass. Again can't stop the swimming in.

Are gill nets illegal now ?
@nwcoastalfishing2172
3 жыл бұрын
It's still a favoured and effective way to catch fish, As long as your fishing with in the guide line set out in the bylaws set out by the fishiers and Mmo. it's perfectly legal to fish with nets. Now we are out of the EU the government and fishiers can make there own rules on fishiers on what we can and can not catch and keep.

Out of interest will the floats be under the water.
@nwcoastalfishing2172
3 жыл бұрын
Hi Mike, yes the float will be fully submerged in about 30ft at high water. These nets work different to surface nets (also know as drift net's) and these only fish 6ft of the bottom for bottom feeding species , where as the floats on surface nets do not get submerged due to the net only being rigged with a light weight leading just enough to sink the netting.

Well done Mike it's a great start👍 you will find as the weather warms up the fishing will get better. The best time for soles is may-july and plaice August-oct these fish are at their best then. How dose your fishies work down there? Can you just put nets out or is there a permit needed?
