500 g dried broad beans (approx. 1.5 kg canned cooked beans)
1 teaspoon baking soda (for cooking beans)
1 bone-in smoked pork leg (approx. 1-1.2 kg)
2 large onions
4-5 cloves of garlic
a sprig of thyme
1-2 bay leaves
1 teaspoon peppercorns

50 ml of oil

1 red bell pepper (or a donut)
1 teaspoon cumin seeds
1 teaspoon sweet paprika
1 teaspoon dried thyme
1 teaspoon chilli flakes (optional)

1 tablespoon tomato paste (broth)
250 ml concentrated tomato juice (with pulp)
