They WERE an amateur rock , punk-ish band. Then broke through as rappers. But they change it up constantly. So much of their stuff sounds very different from previous stuff they did.

The "Eight Days A Week" is a reference to The Beatles' song 'Eight Days A Week.' A song you should definitely check out. You'd love it. And yes, they were a Punk Rock band before they became rappers. They also played their own music on a lot of their records from 'Paul's Boutique' forward. When I first saw the music video, I laughed my little 3-year-old butt off watching MTV with my 20-something cousin at her house. Now that I'm 38, I still laugh my butt off at that video. It is deliciously hilarious. Jayy, I'm going to give you 5 more Beastie Boys tunes. I hope you check them out, even if just for yourself. :) 5. Gratitude 4. You've Got To Fight For Your Right (To Party) 3. Root Down 2. Body Movin' 1. She's Crafty

I was a Metalhead in the 80s but the Beastie Boys were pretty much accepted. Plus it was to bring the metalheads and the rappers together and also early rap and gangs and violence they are trying to just do the rap battles 2 replace the violence or get it down

The Beastie boys broke the mold and help white people get into hip hop music. That's probably why there is a rock background to it
@maxpeck7382

Why there is a Rock background is because they are a group of White guys who love Rock and Rap and wanted to spit rhymes and Rock as well. They could/can spit those rhymes so that is what makes them legit.
