A happy ending for a beaver that was being cared for by our friends at Salthaven West.
This young female was spotted limping down a street in Regina in early May. At this time of year, 2-year-old beavers are being kicked out of their family units as their parents make way for new babies. They are often confused, lost, and get in trouble, commonly fighting with other beavers. We believe that is the case for this young girl.
During triage, Salthaven staff and volunteers noticed that she was very thin, dehydrated, and had an infected wound on her rear leg. She was stabilized, given pain medication, antibiotics and food and within a week she started acting very aggressive towards humans, which is exactly what we want to see.
She was released on private land outside of town and has since been spotted swimming and munching on reeds.
What do you think? Is her little tail slap a “thank you” for a job well done?
