Overall, a pretty nice car, and the way you went through it in detail is great because you go through all the important stuff and it's easy to tell what's good and bad throughout the car. I wouldn't be afraid to have the car, but I agree the aftermarket front suspension setup is not what I would want. They can work really well, but on a vintage Mopar I much prefer the good old torsion bar setup.

There is one advantage to haveing the coil over front suspension. The oil pan sump can be in the back. Raced hard it will keep the engine from being oil starved and spinning the rear bearing. For cruising it would never matter.

I totally agree with you about the aftermarket front suspension. Another Mopar KZitemr, that is apparently sponsored by QA1, I think, says he puts them on every car he does. In fact it is the first thing! But he never gives a reason why. I mean, if you want a 71 Road Runner to handle as badly as a 71 Monte Carlo or Riviera, and be weaker than a 71 Maverick, the only reason I can think of is "drag race only." I also agree about the air shocks, but they are harmless if they have only light air pressure in them. I think the only real way to improve on the 10.75 disk brakes is a 11.75 set up off a 75-81 B or R body, but finding the caliper adapters is not easy. I don't think any aftermarket setup can touch that. I am guessing the aftermarket front disk are "drag race only" since they are less tough the factory disk brakes but only save a small amount of weight.

I had kept the details forever then life n crap u know.. but big takes were boxing control arms.. connected subframes.. had a bar welded in up under dash.. had a that bolted in from above between shock towers.. heavier torsion bars but can't remember what he used. Same with sway bars.. think he had travel limiters on front and HD shocks.. but if uv ever watch that car going around the track it flew thru corners.. if I remember correctly he was the scca dude up till 70 when it all went insane.. other thing my pops preached to me was manipulating steering box/pitman and idler arm so they were as close to mirror sweeps as possible.. from experience can tell u it makes a noticeable difference on most n the others that were wacked out bad makes a new car out of them n I don't hear anyone saying anything about most of that more than old tech .. on similar note everyone hate the junk kelsey hays front brakes but all the new rage in brakes are the same concept in design.. the ones I ran in the past with regular maintenance n lubrication never had an issue n I think with a Lil research and some quality Shadetree some of these hotrod brake pads will work on those kelsey hays n probably a modern rotor too.. In my experience cars like these always bring more money than their worth because buyers never have somebody go over them and they dont know the difference. The good restorations from the smaller shops dont make money because they take so much time. Quick and dirty cars like this easily double their money. To me, coilovers, tubular suspension and Wildwood brakes are screaming red flags. They do it because its easy and they make a ton of money on it, but they are NEVER set up right. They just bolt it all together slap a coat of paint on it and boot it out the door. The cars ride and drive poorly, and the customers think its ok because they dont know any better. Then some poor owner down the road has to spend thousands with an experienced shop just to get the car as good as it would have been stock. Great vid, very cathartic, there are thousands of cars like this, hopefully people learn.

Watch my video coming out tomorrow - I’m doing a comparo test between a stock Mopar and this. Think you know what my conclusion is going to be. To me the biggest red flag on a Mopar is no core support blackout, which this car does not have. Saying that with as many “red flags” as this one has it’s actually a pretty good car. We are planning on removing all the front end stuff to go back to stock.

Nice big belt on that AC at least. But the one thing there which sticks out to me, is that idler pulley off to the side of the compressor toward the alternator. If you were to somehow lower that idler pulley, doing so would buy you some more belt-wrap around that compressor/clutch pulley, which it looks like it could use - I wonder if that was your belt squeal. After your explanation of the forces to the unibody, imparted by that front suspension kit and the rear air shocks, I would go back to original style componentry there - though with some front disks, nice shocks, and slightly beefier antisway bars! OEM master cylinder and steering too. I don't think I'd touch any of that bodywork - other than the rad support blackout. I'd actually like some nice Wilwood calipers for my 2005 Mustang GT, but that's because the car's OEM Bullet Wheels allow them to show through! Wonder if they had some garish modern wheels on the Road Runner before. I would run ONLY those nice stock wheels, or a set of Cragar SS! Not even chrome Magnum 500s!
