Great tips and well thought out video. Buyers should be aware that the salesman may claim to not allow test rides even on a used vehicle because if you find the bike of your choice not comfy enough they may lose a sale. Never buy a bike without a test ride is my advice. Big difference between sitting on a bike and riding it even for only ten minutes.

thank u for these videos. i’ll be 18 in 6 months and will able to get a motorcyle without my mom stopping me, so untill then ive been watching videos and yours have been the best. i dont plan on going crazy fast or doing anything too sporty but i love the ninja 400. the honda rebel 300 would probably be better for how i wanna ride but im not sure how much that matters. ill be riding 30 mins to and from school daily and 15 minutes each way for work a few times a week, which either is fine but ill evenutally have to ride it a 1hr45m each way trip to my beachouse in the summer in which the rebel might be more comfy, however it wont be able to keep up with new jersey highway speeds (people go 80mph+ its crazy lol) so ithe ninja might be better. what are your thoughts ? do you do long rides on the ninja and if so how does it feel ?

This might be the best and most comprehensive "Beginner Bike" videos on youtube; certainly the best one I have ever seen. The temperament chapter is so important for explaining why your buddy's friend's cousin starting on an R6 was okay for them, but you should consider something a little smaller. Not only that, but explaining why an 800cc cruiser is an okay starter bike, but a 600cc sport bike is probably too much. This will be the video I link to any new riders in my life. Also as someone with a big stupid head that only fit in the 800$ Arai, and not the 300$ Bell; I'm glad you mentioned the hidden costs in buying gear.

I'm too tall for just about every bike, but I'm really leaning toward getting the Ninja 400 and putting some rear sets and a taller seat on it. Your KRT looks sweet. At 6'2, I'm probably going with 650 as a first bike (brand new rider). I am really not interested by adventure bikes. Tried to sit on Ninja 400, Ninja 650, R3 and MT-03, I think the 650 felt the less cramped. The thing is sitting on a bike in a show room vs trying it is very different and I'm still doing my classes so I can't try them on the road. So there's that risk of getting a bike without really trying it outside :/. Will likely go on the used market tho. I will probably go sit on SV650, CBR500R, Z650 just to have a feel on the ergo. Good video!!

@@justgetitDLC Been driving my 650 since early May. No complain so far, its a blast!! It can get less comfy if you drive for a long time (+2hours) but I don't think this is a Ninja 650 issue, more of a "spot bike" thing. I cannot speak for a Ninja 400 since I haven't tried it on the road, but i'd say the ergo should feel the same-ish?! Ninja 400 has 30.9 inches seat height while the 650 stands at 31.1 inches. Very happy with the 650!

Because of the power for the highway. You only have 4 options In a tough situation. Go left, go right, slow down, or speed up. 250 and below may not let you speed up as quickly. Also you are more likely to desire more power quicker than you would if you had a 400. In my opinion it's the perfect balance of power for a newer rider. At the end of the day you must get what you like. Not what I like or anyone else. 👍

In the U.S depending on the size of the motorcycle you don’t need a license to ride it I think anything under 150cc doesn’t require a motorcycle license. And to get a motorcycle license is super simple take a 2-3day course usually costs $250-300 when you pass just take the certificate to dmv and they give us our license no other tests needed and we can ride any motorcycle we want 😁
