I think the fact that the R6 is gone and the R7 "replaced" it really pissed people off and so now it's really "R6 is the meanest most difficult bike to ride, Best ever" to "R7 is a kid's bike when you're 14 and you want to give it a shot with motorcycle because it's just so low power" type of thing.

Perfect bike to start on (that was my 3rd bike). Cheap to run & maintain, around 70hp (enough torque but paired with the heavier weight, not too dangerous for beginners) I’d say go for it..

Pretty light, but still has some weight so I do recommend putting sliders on the bike. Buy a used one they're pretty cheap. It has a sporty design but has a comfortable riding position as it's a sports touring bike. Power wise,it's still got enough to pull you out of the bike so I also recommend getting to know the bike before getting it to higher speeds. As always ride safe brother!

R7 is a decent starter bike I'd say. It's torquy, comfortable and good in the city streets whilst also keeping up on highways if you find yourself being tempted.

A good beginner bike is a cheap carbureted one from the 80s and 90s, it teaches basic repair and boosts confidence because not much can go wrong compared to a old car

Just got my 1st bike. 06 katana 750. Pretty comfy, has some speed, and handles great in corners. I’ve also been riding dirt bikes a while too. So maybe that’s why starting on a 750 wasn’t bad for me. Everyone’s different. Just remember, that machine you’re on, can kill you any second, stay safe out there boys!

Not going to lie. I bought a Honda Navi for my first bike. Entirely for building confidence on two wheels in traffic situations, which I feel like should be gained first before learning shifting and whatnot. It's easily quick enough to keep up with city traffic. It's smaller which actually serves two purposes. Gets you used to making maneuvers with cars all around you faster. But it also makes you feel small among vehicles. Once you get past that feeling you have all the confidence in the world to handle a larger bike in traffic. Also, the Navi may not require shifting. But I would rather learn shifting while feeling completely and totally confident on the bike moving and handling. This rather than learning to shift while not being comfortable on two wheels yet.

I rode a CBR 600rr as my first bike and I’d say that 600s are a great place to start but only for some and I was not some. I lacked a true respect for the bike and almost died on it more then I can count on my hands. It wasn’t always my fault but still I wasn’t skilled enough at first to be able to just hope on and ride. My biggest weakness was speed cornering. I will say I lived in an area without an accessible track which I think would have helped a lot with practicing.

Bought a brand new low rider st as my first bike, put front and rear crash bars on it, have dropped it a few times and never had to shed a tear over it because it never damaged my bike. Stop being afraid to get the bike you actually WANT, just put the beginner safety measures on it, and once youre good enough, you can take em off to get the full look back. Get what you want, but be smart about your investment.

I started on a used R6 at 16, person before me kept it original for resale and he was a new rider as well(was a smart thing since I didn’t want some stretched trash which everyone on marketplace was selling) he even gave me some tips before I even bought it. Took it home and the next week I was riding and I’ve been riding since at 24.

I bought my first bike a Honda cb600s (Pc36) in 2021 and rode it for about 2 years. I changed it to a Tracer 9GT. Never dropped my first bike but its better to learn mistakes on a cheap bike like i did with some maintenance. You can really push it in the corners since it was a cheap bike and i wasnt that scared of letting it fall. It really gave me alot of experience but there is still stuff to learn everyday

Best beginner bike in my opinion would be a 250 or 450 supermoto/dual sport. You can gain a lot of core skills a lot quicker on a dirt bike platform in my opinion. It’ll translate well when you move on to say a super sport platform in the future. Plus the torque and lightweight ness of a dirt bike on its own is ALOT of fun. Also, they’re made to crash. You won’t cry when you drop it or ding it. Throw some new bars and plastics on it and it’s good to go.

Same here. Riding position on an 883 is much more comfortable to learn clutch control, leaning, and low speed maneuvering. I’m so glad I rode the 883 for 1.5 years before getting an R6. I still have both bikes and I’m thinking of getting an FXLRS before the end of the year.
