At 13:55, The "Front Faces Only" brush setting doesn't prevent you from painting on the far side of the mesh because the solidify modifier has been applied. Every visible face is a front face, including the ones on the underside.
@loofa4775
10 ай бұрын
Ah! Thanks for that. I guess we could select all the inner faces and hide those in edit mode before going into sculpt mode. I did donut 2.0 but not 3.0. I decided to watch (and eventually do) donut 4.0 as a means to learn the latest features in Blender 4.0

Exactly, but what it does is prevent u from painting on the back face of the face that you're painting. Meaning you'll only paint on the parts that are facing the camera without the paint going through the face to the other side of the same face.

Finally made it to Part 4 after 3 months of several starts, stops and restarts. Step 3 was making me a little batty because I could not get the icing mesh to look like the video. Finally figured it out when I went back and slowly did things step by step and of course it was user error. Still pretty useful in learning what can happen if something does not behave the way I expect it. I have tried the doughnut tutorial several times it the different version of Blender but never got past Step 5. This time around I do feel a lot more enthusiastic about seeing this through to the end. I've been doing two doughnut simultaneously. One following the steps exactly as laid out and another with my own spin on things.

Never give up, never surrender. I've done lots of modeling using apps like Fusion 360. Blender is more an artistic form of Fusion IMHO. I really want to learn Blender but still find it overwhelming and confusing as there are controls all over the place in the app. Sometimes there appears to be no rhyme or reason where they put options in menus for functions/features. Best recommendation I have to others who want to learn Blender from this video is to watch them over and over until you get it. I personally watched parts 3-6 several times.🤔

You should teach about incremental saving for easyer going back and forth. When you detected the error on "front faces only" on the masking part, the problem was already created before, where you created the blobs. So even if you went back a few steps, you couldn't corret all the mistakes made previously. I had to made the icing from zero again. That said, amazing tutorial!!!
