We've since updated our texture formats and names to be more industry standard. So COL is now called BaseColor and NRM is now called Normal. For this tutorial you won't need to use the files ending with Displacement, ORM, AmbientOcclussion or Metallic. If you're curious, you can learn more about what each PBR texture map does here: help.poliigon.com/en/articles/9612755-texture-specifications

I applied the Roughness, Normal, and Base color maps following you precisely. The base color works but the other maps don't seem to do anything. In yours, the scratches, bumps and blemishes in the surface appear obvious. Mine does not seem to have those. I did change the Roughness and Normal maps from sRBG to Non-Color and I added the Normal modifier node in line with the Normal Map and Principled BSDF as well. I can't figure out if it's something I'm doing wrong, or if the textures on your website have changed.

NOTE: I couldn't get the Material colors to appear on my gray donut as shown in the video. I finally figured out that when the video starts, Andrew's Viewport mode (icon row below "Scenes" in upper right of window) was set to "Solid", and this was the same Viewport mode my file was in at the start of this tutorial. When he went to show the flashing red "Subscribe" button in the middle, Andrew first switched the Viewport mode to the next icon over, "Material Preview" without mentioning it, and then left it there when he removed the button. When I switched my Viewport mode to Material Preview, the material colors started showing.

solution for invisible texture paint strokes copied from blender 3.0 donut video: If anyone is having issues with no strokes being visible when attempting to paint, check under the Tex Draw properties tab on the far right. Under texture, there should be a checkerboard pattern. If a black square is there instead, delete that texture. The checkerboard should now be visible, as should your strokes when you begin to paint.

if anyone really hates texture painting, to get the white rim around the middle follow these steps make sure your donut is at z=0 (move your countertop down if necessary) in the shader run the 'object' output of a texture coordinate node into the 'vector' input of a separate xyz node (you can search for all of these run the 'z' output into a math node set to absolute, and run that value into a map range node change 'from max' to about 0.1 (you can also tweak the 'to min' and 'to max' for a different strength gradient) and run the result into the 'saturation' input of a hue/saturation/value node change the color on the hue/saturation/value node to the nice yellow/orange you have in the base color of the principled bsdf and run the 'color' output (of the hue/saturation/value node) into the 'base color' input on the principled bsdf your welcome

this series is the best out of all of them i think you finally perfected the balnace between explanations and time seaving.

Would love to see some curvature shader added to this part in the future. Getting some difference in wetness and crackling of the icing without need for unwrapping.

Im so excited to see a Donut forming on my screen. Didn't think it would be this complicated, but coming from a programming background this isn't that bad... so far lol 😂

"subscribe you filthy casual". Legend. You have earned my sub. Thank you by the way. So far I haven't struggled to understand what was, 4 episodes ago, a daunting task, and that's thanks to your great teaching :D I've learned so much. Thank you for explaining this all so well, and I look forward to hopping into the rest of your content.

Fellas, If your texture paint doesn't work, try deleting the brush in "tools" and adding the same brush, worked for me

At 7:50 when he closes the folder window, if you screw up like I did, and close the wrong one, meaning I lost the donut and only saw my files, and you dont know how to get the donut window back up. The windows are called "areas", you want your world view, or "3d Viewport" back, so click top left, under the blender icon and file tab, there is a button, click it and choose "3D viewport" Then in top right click the ball icon, "viewport shading"

Maybe I'm just dumb, or maybe it's language barrier, but for me the deeper I go to follow your videos, the less I get explanations on what setting does what.. I know it might not be important, but it would help begginers like me :)

I came from C4D looking for a nice fast tutorial which lets me transfer my knowledge to blender, I started with an older series but this one speed it x2 (Thanks KZitem) is so great. Obviously, it needs a little practice to get in this layout but it is easier, thanks to the chapters, to go back and rewatch some key moves in the videos.

Got to the part about UV unwrapping and immediately thought of the Animal Crossing clothing design process, its so cool how its basically just a simplified version of this mechanic (tool... process?? im new so i dont know the semantics) lolol. Can't wait to finish my donut!
