Love this hop chronicles series! Would be interested to see a cascade, cashmere or galaxy episode!

I've tried using varying levels of Belma in a few different recipes, looking for strawberry. Never had even a hint of strawberry in any of the beers.

Barbe rouge hop is another strawberry hop. I got strong strawberry flavor from it, try this again with it. I'd also do it in a wheat beer instead of a pale.

Barnhouse Brewery in Leesburg, VA did an Imperial IPA, The Matriarch, with belma and absolutely got the strawberry note. Thought it was flavored and it turned out to be a SMaSH. Such a unique flavor to pull

Awesome video as usual. Have a couple of questions tho. In the video u said your salt additions were 3g of gypsum and 8g of chloride. Wouldn’t this push the mouthfeel more than the bitterness as u said u were doing with a 3:1 sulphate to chloride ratio? Also when u introduced your sample to Will, you mentioned it was a pale lager recipe. Guess that was just a bit of a slip ya? Cheers! Look forward to your next video, Martin!

You want 3:1 sulphate to chloride so you use 3 grams of CaSO4 and 8 grams of CaCL2? Is that correct?

I wondered about this as well. It seems backwards.

Yep… this is the struggle as homebrewers, we have no control over hop quality. The best brewers go pick individual lots!

I got similar results when I made a similar single hop Belma hop beer. I'll echo some of the other comments here: Barbe Rouge is a strawberry bomb.

Interesting! I didn't get much strawberry from the Belma beer I made back in 2014 (part of our Brewer's Thumbprint experiment), but I did perceive the single-hop Barbe Rouge Pale Ale from a couple years ago as having a unique non-descript berries with cream characteristic.
