it's a decent gun. however, i'd recommend you look into howa as well. not saying one is better, just trying to give you another great option. the upside of the howa is the huge popularity it's gained and the aftermarket support for it now. triggers, stocks/chassis, and other parts are available and inexpensive. you can get a 6.5cm barreled action with a heavy threaded barrel from brownells during their sales for $350. then stick that in an $800 chassis and you have a fantastic gun for the same price. i have a howa and have shot a bergara and i recommend both.

Tyler Reed his bipod looks to be a Harris or a clone of one and they can mount to swivel stud. The Atlas to my knowledge doesn’t have that ability. Any specific reason you went with .308 instead of 6.5? I'm considering buying this gun and keep going back and forth between the two calibers. I think 6.5 will give me a better handicap but the .308 might offset the cost of ammo therefore I will shoot more and shoot better with a .308 since i'm practicing more. Any thoughts?
@7N6ballistics
6 жыл бұрын
blckrsterling I went with .308 primarily for logistical reasons, since I already have .308s only one ammo to buy. Also, ballistic data can be shared with reasonable accuracy across my other platforms. From a ballistics point of view the 6.5mm is definitely superior.

6.5 for paper 308 for hunting Shot hogs with both and there's no question the 308 preforms better. That being said I have killed several with a 223. If I were going to try and kill one at 1000 yards I would go with 6.5 Most people are hunting under 400 and the 308 is where I put my money... and less of it haha

@@RockinRack Yeah 6.5 Creedmore is good but it seems trendy. You can’t go wrong with good ol’ .308.
@RockinRack
3 жыл бұрын
@@dmarkj22 yeah but I have to admit its definitely becoming popular to the point of being a real option as far as ammo variety, cost and availability. If someone wants a pure hunting rife ide say 300wm. People say oh well the accuracy and the recoil and BC. But for a hunting rifle you could buy or load 100 rounds and it last you several years. A hunting rifle is usually shot once so recoil doesn't matter. And when comparing energy at long range 6.5 and 308 don't come close. And plenty of long range shooters do pretty well with 300wm. So the whole caliber choice argument is usually had in an out of context matter. To pick a caliber there's so many factors as far as budgets and intended use. Ideally buy as many guns as you can! Haha my philosophy is all in-between calibers are exactly that. If I want a do all rifle from deer at 100y to elk at 700y 300wm. Small game.. shit a pellet gun or .22lr will keep you fed! With all that said I mostly hunt deer and pigs at 300-400y and 308 is my usual go too. If I know there's a massive buck out there I would bust out the 300wm just in case

Try putting your bipod on a more solid surface than the padded mat when you're shooting prone. It's tough to shoot a good group when your bipod is on a padded surface. Put your bipod on the thin material on the front of your mat and make sure it's dug in good. You don't want loose pebbles underneath the feet. I want to get one of those rifles for my son. Have fun.
@7N6ballistics

Ken Driesbaugh I'll check it out, but the padding on this mat is quite thin...I'm not sure that it would make much difference..i slid back a little to try to minimize the dust signature at the muzzle in hopes of seeing the dust signature drifting at the target...

Have you ever checked out Copper Creek Custom Ammo? They provide "test loads" for ladder testing, then sets of "length loads" to test bullet seating. When the best load is found, that's what they load for in (using a wide range of bullet choices). After you've bought 100 rounds they give you the load info, which you can use yourself if you prefer. They're a good service. coppercreekcartridgeco.com/

You should load your own. My rifles don’t like Federal GM Match. Buy Lapua brass and try Nosler 168gr HPs. My rifles shoot this brass/bullet combos way under 1/2 MOA. My belief is one cannot determine a rifle’s accuracy w factory loads? The barrels on these rifles are very-very high quality. They contracted with Ed Shillen to build their barrel manufacturing facility from scratch.

Dan Ross tuning a load for a specific rifle will certainly yield best results, but this was more about using stock components...it delivered in followup vids. The main thing is it lives up to the manufacturers claim..
