Hi Ross, you must have had the ones that actually worked as advertised. I purchased two of the same ones and had an absolutely terrible experience with them. They would’nt absorb water for love nor money. They seemed to spread it around more than dry it up. I use the Liquidator towels now and they are monumentally better. I’m glad you had success with them.

My favorite is the Griots PFM. I also have TRC Gauntlet and Liquid8R. I use the Griots PFM as my primary towel with Auto Fanatic 007 Gloss Enhancer and it works great. I use the TRC Gauntlets as the second towel to buff. I only buy the Griot PFM when it's on sale usually during Black Friday, it goes down to $32 bucks.

I used the Gauntlet for a long time and loved it....until I tried Luxury Microfiber's Sucker. Noticeable improvement in water pickup and retention. I also bought a Sucker Lite which has a softer fiber on the "non-drying" side to smooth out any topper you may be using. I am able to dry my wife's X7 with a single 20" X 32" Sucker Lite. Haven't yet tried the Liquid8r.

I find that with twist loop drying towels they generally perform consistently great from the start, whereas plush towels they tend to do poorly at the beginning when they're bone dry, but after they've picked up a bit of water into all of the fibers they perform pretty much just as well as twisted loop. Osmosis is easier with the twist loop towels because the water is able to get into more fibers as they're bunched together.

I have a pretty high pile of drying towels from many manufacturers...And they all work pretty well, but I'd have to say my go-to towel seems to be The Rag Company's "Double Twistress" at 850 GSM, because of it's handy 20"x24" size and ease of use... It's very absorbent, not unwieldy, folds well during use, and is still 1-handable even loaded up. Alcantara/ suede edges, nice thickness, smooth sliding. Just about everything you could ask for. Close second for me is the "Liquid8r" also by The Rag Company, but I find it's 1100 GSM pile just a bit too thick even in the 20"x24" size to 1-hand when it's full, but they do make a 16"x16" which I will likely order a pair of for this coming spring. Honorable mentions to the gorgeous Purple Maxshine 1200GSM Microfiber Drying Towel in 24"x35" which is among my favorite large-format "drag-style" drying towel. I just find these larger towels are more clumsy to use doing doors and lower panels, splitters, diffusers and things near the ground... dragging the tips or edges of your drying towel on the ground are just asking for a scratch, so I definitely agree with your preference for the smaller sizes. Keep up the great work and the amazing content!! I've learned so much from you, and have been entertained at the same time !!

Great video as always. I have the Griots Garage towel. Been using them for years. I got smaller gauntlet towels for Rinseless. Just easier to handle. Griots gets a bit heavy when going from sponge to towel each panel.

I love these review videos Pan! They can really help people save themselves some money trying different things that may not be ideal. I have used a few of these towels and they're great. I currently use one from CarPro that I've found works really well and air dries fairly quickly between jobs. I primarily use a leaf blower on coated cars as touchless is ideal.

This is a VERY informative video for those that care about this kind of stuff. Its great to see how they perform out of the gate and brand new, but how does the purchase value stack up over time? Curious to see their performance after maybe 6 month of being used twice a week to clean a car as the average Joe, and after being washed themselves holds true. That would show a true value of $$$$ well spent and see if the quality of the build holds up.

Great video, Pan! At my company we have used 3 of the top 3 that you picked and we agree that the rag company makes the best pro detailer drying towels. There price is top and the product is always great. For any DIYer those really big towels are great too and if it's just your vehicles you work on the price is there as well because with proper care you should be able to get years out of them.

Do to the disparity in size of the various towels, I was afraid they weren't getting a fair shake in the price comparison, so I calculated the price per sq ft of the larger sizes. The Liquidator was the lowest at $3.84 per square ft with the Gauntlet very close behind at $ 4. Next was Griots Wooly at $4.80, followed by the Sucker at $5.14 and the most expensive PFM at $6.21 per Sq ft.

Prices fluctuate over time, certainly since this video was produced. But regardless, it was always clear that the Liquid8r was the best value for money and a clear winner in performance too (with the likes of the Gauntlet, my personal favourite).

I've tried many different drying towels including the Rag company towels and none of them compare to my two 12 year old, but like new to this day "The Absorber" towels. Why is it that no one in the professional YT detailing community not ever speak about The Absorber? I think many, many, and I mean MANY people are missing out. They work better than anything in existence when it comes to sucking water up from my vehicles and have never given me any problems. Just thought I'd share. Stay up. 🤙🏽
@PanTheOrganizer
Жыл бұрын
Why nobody speaks of towels like the "Absorber" is because synthetic chamois-style towels are a thing of the past. Yes the Absorer is made of PVA (poly vinyl alcohol) making it safer compared to old school leather chamois, but it's still a chamois. Micorifbers are way softer on the clear coated finishes and as this is a detailing channel, I recommend what is safest to use. The majority of marring on the paint happens during the hand washing and towel drying phases. So in order to minimize the chances of those, it's best to use the safest techniques and tools available. And microfiber towels are the best for drying paint. (Actually using a car dryer or blower is even better as that's a touchless option, but that's for another video). Pretty much all the drying towels in my video are top tier and work flawlessly in my experience. So if you like the Absorber, that's ok too. Nobody will judge you for that. To each their own. But not many pro detailers or detailing enthusiasts use chamois anymore.
@erod6468
Жыл бұрын
@@PanTheOrganizer yeah, I've used actual chamois way in the past and did not like them at all. The Absorber towels are way different and just basically leave 0 streaks or 0 water. Makes sense today's drying towels are all soft microfiber types as they don't do as good a job from my experience, will require more passes as compared to these towels and they need to be extra soft for those reasons. I get what you are saying and it absolutely makes sense when it is not your vehicles you are washing. Having said that, the clearcoats and paint on my vehicles are prestine to this day having used these synthetic absorber towels. Thanks for the reply and best wishes. 🤙🏽 Edit: Also, yes, using my electric leaf blower is a game changer. I have been using it in conjunction to my towels to remove the bulk of the water along with hard to reach trapped water and it makes a huge difference indeed!

I liked the Gauntlet better than Liquid8R - found the second one just didn’t hold up in the wash/dry cycle and I definitely baby my towels (Rags to Riches, correct water temp/dry procedure, etc) …and it still lost it’s drying ability pretty quickly which was disappointing. I have detail towels that I have had for YEARS that are still great shape so maybe in that value category, the difference is in the quality of the microfiber. Griots is also very nice but I do have to fold in in half to control it! GREAT video as always Pan!

On your next towel comparison maybe add in a couple towel or two from Detail Division Carbon Collective Klin Korean towels, the Duo kilo is almost 1600GMS 35X27 and weighs in at One Kilogram, it has to be a monster in soaking up water.

I have the Liquid8r, the PFM and the Wooly Mammoth. I rank the wooly mammoth at the bottom - one of my main concerns is that i dropped it and it was totally embedded with small bits of leaves, sand, etc and i could not get any of it out. The Liquid8r has been phenomenal and I agree for the $ you cant get a better drying towel. i have used it many times, washing with free and clear, and have no issues with durability. The Griots PFM absorbed the best out of all of them but i agree it is a bit pricey. Id go with the Liquid8r for any purchases in the future.

Nothing against the other guys, but The Rag Company provides such a great value on all their towels, with customer service to match. It would be best to test them all on a black colored car. It would be the best place to see the stains after drying. On a gray car, even after a bad towel, no streaks would be visible. I have a Chemical Guys Woolly Mammoth towel and I was not satisfied, still lots of streaks.
