For those who are interested, here is a summary of the video: In this discussion, we cover a new fasting study that examines the effects of a specific feeding/fasting window on tumor suppressor proteins, cellular senescence, inflammatory biomarkers, and autophagy. The study, conducted in Germany, observed 25 healthy young men over a 30-day period during Ramadan. The results showed a significant increase in autophagy initiation proteins, reductions in inflammatory cytokines, and improvements in cellular senescence. This study emphasizes the importance of consistency in fasting, with a 17-19 hour window daily for 30 days. Another key finding of the study is the increase in the genetic expression of tumor suppressor protein p53. This protein plays a vital role in DNA repair, and the study found that daily fasting could increase p53 activity, potentially helping prevent cancer. Furthermore, the research demonstrates that prolonged intermittent fasting may induce autophagy, reduce inflammation, and reduce senescence markers. This is particularly beneficial when combined with regular physical activity, which has also been shown to improve these biomarkers. While fasting may not directly increase testosterone levels, it can indirectly support metabolic health and testosterone by improving insulin sensitivity, which is important for the enzyme aromatase that converts testosterone into estrogen. In terms of building muscle mass and fasting, it is crucial to ensure that workouts are appropriately fueled and that the fasting window is not too extreme. A 16-18 hour fast daily, with sufficient caloric intake during the feeding time, can help balance the benefits of fasting while still promoting muscle growth. Key points covered include: The amount of fat during the feeding window: Focus on protein rather than fat, as you have enough body fat already. Sirtuins and mTOR: Balance between enhancing autophagy and supporting the mTOR pathway by prioritizing protein during the feeding window. Athletes and intermittent fasting: A 10:30 am to 6:30 pm feeding window works well for most athletes. Insulin spikes: Stevia, CDP choline, and natural flavors are not a big concern when it comes to insulin spikes. Consuming protein or creatine after working out: Not necessary to eat immediately after a workout. However, intense workouts may require some energy before or during the session. Ketosis: Can be tested using a glucose and ketone meter, such as the one by BioCoach. Supplements during fasting: Electrolytes, creatine, vitamin D, K2, and omega-3s (EPA/DHA) can be beneficial. Prolonged fasting: Two-week fasts are not recommended for those with body fat under 20%. Honey consumption: Avoid consuming excessive honey unless you are a very intense athlete. Creatine during fasting: It can help with glucose utilization in the brain and improves cellular hydration. Dealing with flabby skin: Exercise, infrared light therapy, and sauna can help along with fasting or calorie restriction. Fasting for young people: Consider the individual's situation, such as obesity or metabolic disease, before advising fasting. Fasting for those over 50: Adjust fasting windows based on physical activity and exercise to ensure adequate calorie and protein intake. Saunas: High Tech Health infrared saunas and collapsible saunas are both great options for incorporating heat therapy into your routine.

I am doing OMAD the past few weeks. Yes. It's easy!!!! IF your body is adapted. I would recommend to 16, 18, 20 gradually for many months, then once you get to the habit not eating, you no longer craving or feeling hunger up to 36 hours with ease. Train your body overtime.

Good advice! I'm doing 16/8 most of the time, but sometimes I just skip the lunch and end up doing 20/4 or OMAD. I can see moving toward 20/4 in the next 2-3 months. I think that will really help!

You don’t want your body getting adapted to fasting. I think shocking the body with random aggressive fast gives better results. For example eat normally for a few days then fast 36 or 48 hours and repeat. It’s very powerful if your body is not used to fasting too much.
@Yong_Goh

@@abdwad1559 that indeed is key... body enters autophagy during the periods where one feels a bit "hungry"... so its good to shock the body once in awhile... maybe 16:8 for 3 days... 20:4 for a day or two... eat the next day normally... start again... skip breakfast for a couple of days...then skip lunch...then dinner... then fast for 23 hours for 2-3 days...then next couples days eat twice a day then the next day eat as you like...then start a fast window again... always surprise the body

Can you train an exercise while in your fasted state? I have to fast for at least 12 hours before I go running or do any kind of hiitt training. But I noticed when I do like a 20 hour fast I don’t have the energy to put in to my work out. And then the following day I eat for about 12 hours straight, so I wonder if there’s any point in doing the longer fasts.
@dlg5485

You certainly don't need to take months to implement 20:4 or even OMAD. The body actually adapts quite quickly and easily IF you are consistent from the very beginning. I started IF with 8 hr feeding window and I reduced it by 1 hr each week until I got to 20:4 which is where I chose to stay, although I typically do OMAD on weekends for a bit of extra benefit. I had zero difficulty ramping up my fasting window in just 1 month...consistency is the key to success. Don't vary your schedule! Pick a feeding window and systematically shrink it over the course of a month or so and you will be fine!

It's REALLY important to take into consideration if you are a female who is pre-menopausal as well. If you fast too often , for too long, or aren't able to get enough calories into the eating window, you will mostly likely stop ovulating which causes a cascade of all kinds of hormone issues which is going to ultimately cause other health problems. I did intermittent fasting for a few years (16 hours) and lost my period, stopped ovulating, and had massive spikes in anxiety. Within 2 months of no longer intermittent fasting, my period came back, and I haven't felt this good in YEARS. I'm not saying you can't fast as someone with a menstrual cycle, but I think it's entirely different than what all these studies in men are showing. If I ever do fast again I would probably do something like one or two days of fasting following by feasting and then only one or two weeks out of the month. Right now I am sticking with the baseline health idea of 12 hours of 'fasting' after dinner until breakfast.

@@aurapopescu1875 I think the early time restricted folks just rely on junk science. If you are USED to eating first thing in the morning, which is the case for 99% of people in the west (where the eTRF studies are conducted), then of course you'll feel better AT THE BEGINING on eTRF. Look at the studies on eTRF yourself. None of them did last, say, for a year. None of them involve people, like myself, who have been doing late time restricted eating for years and are used to it. They all involve folks who've been eating breakfast in the morning since they were born and last, what, 20 weeks at most? So yeah, those studies are all wrong IMHO. I'll go with the experience of the billions of human beings who've been doing this for thousands, if not tens of thousands of years. And I can see the effects on myself too.

22 hrs per day provides weight loss for me. Some people will lose on 16. Combine with a fasted workout - loose weights not cardio - has demonstrable benefits. Longer fasts are challenging. Have done up to 7 days - 168 hours - loss of weight is temporary as it comes back within two weeks or less as body comes back to its previous set point. For mental clarity fasting after day 3 is great. No hunger post 3 days. It just gets boring without eating and lack of exercising one's jaw also means that it finally feels a relief to start eating again. Omad is good if can sustain it. Especially keto as that reduces hunger

Hey, great video, thanks for the content! Do you know anything about HGH being linked to cancer? And are the benefits of fasting when it comes to cancer prevention higher than the risk of getting cancer through elevated HGH levels? Is there anything to boost the catabolic state besides helping the mTOR pathways by eating protein, or should that be sufficient?
@btudrus
Жыл бұрын
"Do you know anything about HGH being linked to cancer?" There is a common misconception that individual hormones are bad and causing cancer. However the real problem is the chronic overactivation. So it doesn't make sense to ask whether HDH is being linked to cancer. Chronic overactivation of HGH will quite surely be linked to cancer. But this is not to say that HGH itself is "linked to" cancer or is causing it...
@_MrGameplay_
Жыл бұрын
@Butrus Damaskus yeah that is kinda what I am asking. Is HGH overactivated the majority of the time when doing OMAD, to an extend that it's promoting cancer growth? Is a potentially unhealthy amount when it comes to building cancerous cells only obtained through supplements? Or maybe also through prolonged fasting (more than 24h)?

So is fasting more important than exercise? As far as inflammation goes? And are there any benefits to exercising while in a fasted state?
@komalthecoolk

Why didn't we see these benefits on earlier fasting studies? Is it because the Ramadan fasting is different? Fast during the day and feed when the sun is not up? Is it because it's a dry fast with no water? Is it because it's done only one month in an year?

Thanks for your content! I am keto and pretty regular with my eating window of noon - 5. What you're saying backs up this routine but Thomas Delauer says that fasting should be an anomaly and to switch up when you fast, how long you fast, and how often... How am I supposed to know whose advice to listen to?

Studies are coming out regularly about benefits and risks associated to different diets and fasting. I would pay attention to what the consensus of major medical associations and doctors are suggesting over random folks online. Keto, for example, has some risks associated with it you should read about. One excerpt: “A low-carb, high-fat “keto-like” diet may be linked to higher levels of “bad” cholesterol and double the risk of cardiovascular events such as blocked arteries, heart attacks and strokes, according to new research.” Obviously, what you consume while on Keto makes a big difference, but in my experience… tons of grifters, be careful.

You are supposed to switch from time to time, so the metabolism doesn’t get adapted! Have a brunch on Saturdays, and dinner late, maybe do an afternoon BBQ and late dinner on Sunday! The. You can go back to your your 19 5! So you are still being consistent, if you do this over a long period of time! Just listen to your body…u don’t have to follow100% only what one person says! I am a woman and I realised I have to switch from 20 4 a few days here and there, in rhythm with my hormonal change!! It works!

Switch up the fasting with a day that you don’t fast ( but still eat keto). Do 3 days of 16:8 lets’s say, the next day no fasting, then 20:4 for example! Your metabolism has adapted…so you need changes to trigger burning and weight loss!

Even on two meals a day, I lose weight. I have to be careful because I tend to lose it pretty fast. I went into IF with low carb because a diagnosis of pre diabetes. However, I never have been fat, no more than 130 lbs good for my height and waist. I am now fluctuating between 101 and 104lb. No longer pre diabetic, but I would like to be at least 110. Yes I eat more protein and also increased my fat, but no too much. I do not test ketones or check macros only make sure is less than 50g of carbs a day. The only thing I was checking for almost a year was my blood glucose. I learned now how to eat, so I no longer do it only on occasions like ever three months for a week for reassurance. Most people is concerned with losing weight; I m concerned with staying away from diabetes. My case is more familial than eating behavior; I always have been moderate with my eating. Good education!
