You need to use the dremel diamond tile cutting bit. It’ll strip out that grout like a hot knife cutting butter. Always mist the tile grout first. Not only does it keep the bit cool, but it cuts down the dust and softens the grout somewhat when cutting through it.

I'm new to Dremels, but this thing has been great. kzitem.infoUgkxfPgcZ5_Cl0HDUKkMJAKde11YKQZVgMoR The variable speed is awesome and the cordless aspect makes it so easy to work with. I am constantly finding uses for it that make tasks easier. Recently I put in a new deadbolt on one of our doors. I knew I had to enlarge the hold where the deadbolt goes into the door frame. At first I thought I would have to get a big router and figure out how to use it for that, but then I rermembered we have the dremel. I was able to enlarge the hole almost as easy as if I was drawing with a pen. It's also great for grinding our dog's nails done and so many other household tasks.

QEP Hand Grout Saw I just bought (model 10012) and it has a major flaw. The 2 screws locking the blades in place are so small, and so tight, that I stripped one trying to get them out.

I wouldn't recommend using that hand grout saw on an angle. You could mar the tile edge and get metal transfer on the tile, which new grout won't cover. It doesn't have to be completely free of old grout. You can turn the tool a bit to get more off once you're to desired depth. Of all the tools I've used, and I've used every one you show, this is best for me. I did a very large area with a hand tool it's WAY less messy if anyone cares about that. If time is not an issue, do a little at a time. IMO the oscillating tool is the messiest of all, getting dust everywhere. Plastic off doorways to adjacent rooms.

You are correct about not using the tool at an angle. On the other hand no one has mentioned what the instructions say - you can stack blades to increase/decrease the width and eliminate the need for cutting on an angle.

Box cutter or olfa blades work well to clean the edges of the tile. For grout lines 1/8 or smaller the blades actually work just as well as the grout saw and are cheaper. And more precise. Regrouting is definitely a nightmare. I hate grout with a passion.

Hand tool (saw) will give best results. Its more controllable but WAY slower. Depends on client and the overall tile install. Dremel, Meh. They have no balls (Roto Zip is a better option), and everyone spins them WAY WAY too fast. That and you should only need one size. If you need a 1/8 and a 1/16 and even smaller, your tile guy SUCKED! Good video, good advice.

I used Milwaukee carbide blade on multitool and got about 36” before it wore to metal. Picked up a couple diamond blades at Harbor Freight for less than the Milwaukee and got most of a 6’x4’ shower done. Was able to move tool side to side and forward with easy strokes to remove about 2mm without damaging tile (have wide grout lines). Used grout saw for tight corners. first time doing this, won’t go into all the false starts.

For those thin lines the occelator is your best bet. If you have a steadier hand than God himself, use a diamond tile blade on a grinder and use a vacuum

I walked into the laundry room one day to the smell of wood stain. Well it was winter and below zero temps and my husband was staining an item. No big deal. Later I returned to the laundry room to go to the freezer. That’s when I found the disaster! He had spilled a whole quart of stain! He attempted to wipe it off the top of the freezer, no place else. Let add here that my husband isn’t an idiot. He’s very intelligent and has been a very good hobbyist and very conscientious about spilling things. However, he has been diagnosed with dementia. So he no longer is able to recognize some problems. So here it was some time after the spill had occurred and very little had been cleaned up. So the walls can be repainted, but the floor in that corner is now stained with redwood. I tried everything to get it up but it had soaked into the grout probably immediately. So now that it’s several months after the fact...I am finally ready to tackle this mess. So I just want to say thank you for your video. My husband has a multi tool so all we need are the blades. I think we will pick up a grout saw too.

I'm tackling the same job using a dremel rotary. I do have the 570 grout bit but I've noticed that the bit is already starting to wear, I assume from constant temperature fluctuations from the friction. Out of curiosity, anyone think that using a diamond bit would extend the life of the bit?

re-grouting is one of the scariest things in the world to me. I genuinely hate it. Most of my jobs were ripping out entire bathrooms and starting fresh, but occasionally i would get a job that involved something like main bathroom reno plus en-suite shower re-grout. I remember one in a 4 x 4 shower stall and it was about 40 degrees out. took all day.

Joe Pah the dremel manual says to go back and forth, also think the blade should be flipped 180 degrees, that way you can go all the way to the wall or corner
