Hi, this truly fantastic how further you went on fine tuning prints, compared to other "pros". I'm amazed by all the little details that can be thought of. I need to learn all that. Two questions though: - Would you consider writing all these tips down on a web page? Sooo much easier to refer to while tuning prints myself - Why don't you use adaptative layers heights at the inner bottom?
@Factorian_Designs
13 күн бұрын
Thank you, I am currently not planning to write all this down. I think most people prefer an interactive video and I sadly don't have unlimited time on my hands ^^. Another person also commented on the adaptive layer height. This will also change the layer height on the outer wall and I am pretty sure this will be quite visible on the outer shape. To me the inner section looks fine and I have never gotten complaints but I will try it out to see what it looks like.

@@Factorian_Designs You are right, layer height cannot be tuned by modifiers, but it can be modified by objects. And I don't understand how people can prefer a fast video with 10 tips by minute rather than a paper that you can take at your own pace, but OK :) ;)

Did you try out smaller changes like 0,41 -> 4,425 ? You could also try to add a modifier with 20+ walls for the bottom only and set the printing order to "Inner/Outer/Inner". Not sure if this will fix it but its worth a try.

I’ve tried your methods and they are a game changer, especially the modifiers enable it to use infills only where needed. However, I struggle a little bit with closed round Objekts, the top doesn’t seem to have enough layers despite a ball shaped modifier I put on top, so unfortunately I got some holes in the round top shell…. And when I change the line width of the top modifier I get an extra seam in the shape of the modifier on the top. Maybe hard to explain but I kinda don’t understand it yet. I keep trying. Otherwise the wall quality is insane and the time and filament savings are significant!
@waldyeti3744
4 күн бұрын
I think I found the solution. When using heavily sloped objects like closed-top round objects, diabling “ensure vertical shell thickness” causes to only produce a very thin layer on the top that has holes. I activated the “moderate” setting in the top modifier and the problem seems to be fixed now!!
@TS_Mind_Swept

The print modifier to make the infill support for the base was good, but to make the bottom thicker, it would be easier to just add a hight range modifier (I use those a lot)

What's the difference between using a modifier to change the top shell thickness of the print versus just using top shell thickness setting in the original model?
@Factorian_Designs

Like with "top shell thicksness" this will add material where we don't want any, shown at min 01:50. Using a modifier enables you to set the global top layer count to 1 and still have good top surfaces. Hope that helps!

I'm surprised you didn't use variable layer height to address the *uhum* not-so-nice inside bottom curvature where the egg sits. Those layers are extremely visible. I guess that's the perfectionist in me. Some very good tips though, I will definitely try these. Can you make a similar video on overhanging curves? What I mean by that is: imagine you printed the egg holder upside down. Then how do you get the curved inside overhang looking nice? My X1C struggles with that so much and it's really inhibiting me. I get a ton of stringing and just ugly cohesion using PLA.

Like said in another comment, this would also affect the outside of the print, I am not sure if this would look good. Sadly you can't do variable layer height for modfiers only. As a side note: Everyone who is into 3D printing seems to hate the layer lines but the consumer perspective I haven't gotten a single complaint about them on the inside. Some even like the layers style when they are thick and visible. I recently saw an injection molded planter that imitated thick layers of a 3D printer xD. Overhanging curves are a hard one, but I have a video in mind which may touch on that subject a little.

@@Factorian_Designs I went back and realized that it is adding thickness because the Inner part of the cup is also considered “top layers” but now i am a little confused on how increasing both z offset and elephants foot compensation makes the first layer more reliable. There was no explanation on how that improved the reliability and repeatability of first layers. I am sorry to ask so many questions but i am new to 3d printing.

@@x_Layers in the video we are decreasing the distance to the build plate, this will add more squish and more adhesion (-0,04 -> -0,08). The elephants foot compensation is just to get rid of the sharp bottom edge.

I've used the 0.6 line width from a 0.4mm nozzle for a while too, but I use it more for agressive overhangs, so the outer perimiter layer has a bit more overlap on the one below. @FrodeBergetonNilsen
3 күн бұрын
@@Factorian_DesignsThat makes no sense. If you want to apply something by layer, use the correct way to do so. Modifiers do not work for me, since whenever I use them for anything but layers, the outer boundary of the modification generates weaknesses in the print. For instance, using a modifier to increase infill, will produce a line of no-crossing around the boundary of the modifier object. Also, if you use line height, it somewhat easy to transfer the modifications to another model, by replacing the stl. But if you use modifiers instead of line height, that makes no sense to me.

I'm always surprised there are people who buy 3D printed stuff. People who are interested in 3D printed stuff will own a 3D printer and print stuff themselves. Those who are not interested, will buy off the shelf item. And even if you perfectly print something, the way the surface is, it usually leads to it being easily visibly scratched, and dirt sticks to it well.

Not everyone who’s interested in 3D-printed items will invest in a 3D printer, they may not have the time, skills, or desire to learn how to design & print themselves. Some people just want a cool item with fancy geometries or just like the style of some artists. I always have to print multiple of every new creation to supply my friends and family ... but I like it this way.

I honestly don't get comments like this. Making money from something makes it possible for people to spend 40+ hours a week on it, driving innovation and increasing community size in return. This includes all the big 3D printing KZitemrs. The contributions of CNC Kitchen, for example, are invaluable to the community, and I am very glad Stefan is able to do this full-time. And like him, many others release that information freely available on KZitem. It's a win-win situation in my book, but you do you.
