I'm a music teacher and an audio editor for 20 years. To my ears the Deity is obviously the better. Why? Because the Røde maybe in a 'trendy' way gives a pop to the bass, but in the higher frequency range it sounds dumped and that's not nice. It is clearly audible. And on the other side, the Deity sounds sharp, balanced and natural. Surprise or not, considering Røde's great history: Deity is better! Thank you for the very useful test, good job! :)

I definitely feel that indoors, maybe it was the acoustics, but your highs sounded clipped on both mics. Perhaps it was your camera settings that were skewed. Going outside your voice instantly sounded better. Both mics sounded a lot better once you turned down camera levels and just used the gain. Most camera noise comes from having the levels too high. The mic gain is a much better way to balance it.

i personally think Rode is overrated and more of a "popularity among creators" type thing. A lot of vloggers are young and easily influenced, if they see a popular you tuber with one,they want to go out and buy it without researching it. in my opinion this video shows clearly which which is the better mic. I don't like the corn cob turd look of the rode, however for filming with only an iPhone the mini rode shotgun mic is a great choice. As far as bigger cameras for me its still the deity- even in 2024...great vid!

The inability to replace the [Battery] on the DEITY V-Mic D3 Pro is a significant disadvantage. Does anyone know how much money Deity charge to replace the battery for the D3 Pro? Is there another way to power the microphone with a death battery?

Sound engineer here. Both mics provide quality sound, but i have to say the Deity has a slight constant hiss. Not sure the average person would pick it up because as a sound engineer I listen for noise in audio. Could this be because the battery was low?

@@brettgaramella You could decrease some high frequencies in post, but you'd have to weigh up whether it's worth the slight drop in clarity. Vlogging etc is fine with a tiny hiss but not for eg quiet parts in pro live music recording. I'm actually switching to a zoom h4n to attach on top of my DSLR. See how that goes.

Looking for a new camera & mic to go on it to record gym/workout videos, as well as switch quickly to photography. Your review between the two REALLY helped! I’m so new to all of this & you were so enthusiastic & explained everything so simply, in the best way. The Deity does sound sharper & almost hurt my ears like a few ppl commented. Is there a type of setting that can help lessen the sharpness or is that just what you get with that mic? Your a pro with this stuff-what are your thoughts with gym noise (weights clinking) between the 2 mics? Would weights clinking or other gym sound be too sharp for the Deity or like you showed, can sounds like that all be eventually filtered out based on setting? Trying to learn a lot, but I’m so clueless!

@@brettgaramella By "fuller" I meant more (natural) bass frequencies. More like a radio broadcaster's mic would be. So for me the Rode is a clear winner on sound, and also on the automatic switching on/off. The Deity is however a worthy contender and I particularly liked the ability to use TRRS and XLR connections. Although it is not difficult to adapt the Rode as well.
@jlimproductions9411
5 жыл бұрын
@@brettgaramella perhaps let me clarify - if it's louder, that means you are limited by how much you crank it up in certain environments. Everyone has a different take on sound but the professionals prefer generally a flatter and natural sound that they can tweak in post. I also suggest to bring the levels in the camera preamp down further and crank both mics up all the way to really hear the differences at high gain levels. People forget that the Deity is also made of brass which means it's RF-shielded against interference coming from phone calls. Its adjustable gain knob allows you to make fine micro-adjustments when you ARE shooting interviews (+1 or +2 db instead of 0 to +20db ) and it achieves this without any form of static when you turn the knob. The Deity does all of this at a much lower price point of a USD$100 difference.
