I recently landed the heaviest pike of my life on my ultra light rig. 24in 13 fishing ultra light pole cheapo combo,8lb ice pro braid,2lb Berkley ice leader, blood knot connection,1/16th oz forage minnow. She was 17 lbs 2.25 oz and 41 in long. Spooled me twice completely, just kept working her till she got bored and stuck her nose in the hole. Solid 20 min fight. Usually run 4lb mono and 10lb ice pro braid on everything. If it's real dirty straight braid.

My recent find has been just the straight 4lb green trilene. It disappears even in clear water, and is solid in detecting the slightest bite because of the brightness of the line(kindofa fluorescent green) Not a giant or anything but I iced a 24” eye on that line with my oldest dink 24” ultralight Berkeley rod I had setup with a big fathead in my ifish pro! With your drag tuned in right, 4lb has worked for me for multiple eyes this size.

I've always used 4lb mono on rod's. And 5lb leader on 10lb braid on my tip ups.

Ive run 4lb for years and come to believe the fact is if you know your equipment proper it shouldnt matter the size fish the vairiable that changes is length of the fight. Dont tell anyone but thats the fun part so it works out great

To the 1st professional, get a sharp edge of some sort and rake monofilament and fluorocarbon line of the same diameter across the sharp object and see which one last longer. Make sure and come back to this comment section and let me know

Light leader material is good, but heavier main line slows the drop rate.... best of both worlds.

Flurocarbon more nick resistant ? Yes but only IF it's leader line. Reg. flouro. nicks pretty easy.

Does anybody have the issue with your main line and barrel swivels, then your leader? Sure all fine and dandy if your leader is less or equal to the rod length your using when trying to land a fish for example, but going with a longer leader you may still have the tendency to reel excess line in including that dang barrel swivel which might not fit thru your guides on the rod. I would think some would adapt and tie a Uni-knot or some other type of Union Knots like the FG Knot when connecting your main line to a leader? Even then you might have issues depending on the size of the guides on your rod trying to reel a Union Knot thru, not to mention ice build up on the Union Knot and make's releasing line off your reel spool a hassle too(even with a barrel swivel if you manage to being using a leader that long).

When the swivel comes up, raise your rod as high as you can then just grab your leader with your other hand and pull in the fish.

@@ryanwilson5936 That technique is all fine and dandy if your using short leaders or leaders shorter than your rod length and a person's thoughts with a fish on doesn't always remember that they need to perform that technique when having a swivel inline, lol. I assume the average and experienced angler knows to rig with short leaders anyway, but some mention in video's that for some reason or another they use longer leaders in different type's of fishing situation's.

DEER RECOVERY TRACKING DOG How long of a leader are you running? The way I said gives you at least 10 feet of leader length. Want another 5 feet? Just stand up.

@@ryanwilson5936 Edited my last comment after you read it Ryan although if what you said gives you 10 feet of leader length, why would you want that long of a leader in the first place depending how deep your fishing? From listening to video's as this one and others, most use leader length's from 12" to 24".

DEER RECOVERY TRACKING DOG Pretty much where I was getting at lol. I usually use a shorter (1’-2’) leader if I use one at all. Like the one guy said, he’ll use an 8’-10’ leader just so he doesn’t have to tie on an entire new one every time he switches jigs. Which I implement in the summer casting dry flies with my ultra light spinning setup. A longer leader definitely helps by giving you a little length before an entire new leader is needed. I was just giving a solution to reeling in your swivel past the guides.

I use 60-80# Dacron right to a 2/0 treble hook. I never catch any fish, but I never lose any hardware either. 😂😂😂

Good way to get out and not get any interruptions while doing beer research. Although I’m sure you’d still get a pickerel or two on that setup as I’ve seen it done.

All these guys are talking about weight of the fish to the size of line, makes sense. At what point do you do to a heavier line to account for the teeth?? Walleye bite right through my 6 lb. line, and there not even a big fish.

6lb fluorocarbon is all I run for walleye fishing wether it's my jigging rod or my dead stick. Always have a swivel on your line and a quick snap for the best action from your lure.
