I usually like the work that you do, but in this category, you left off the ability to use an NVR (ONVIF, RTSP) which also calls into question the assertion that only the high-end cameras allow for 24/7 recording. If you have other security cameras the ability to add the doorbell recording to the NVR is a great feature. I for one looked at a number of the cameras that you reviewed and immediately eliminated any of the proprietary streaming cameras. I then tested a number of the cameras and for me the Amcrest AD410 wins (rebranded Dahua). I get 24/7 recording to surveillance station on my Synology NAS; I am able to use the Amcrest or the Synology app; with the Amcrest app providing pretty low latency 2-way communications. You may wish to make yet another video only focusing on ONVIF/RTSP doorbells and NVR integration.

I'm sending my Reolink POE back, it has been very frustrating. There are no pop-up notifications on Android when the door bell is pressed, the same sound as a regular text message is used when the doorbell rings, make us miss deliveries all the time. There is no way how to add another chime, they do not support it, you cannot buy another one. It has been a very bad experience. Also I was expecting POE to be much faster/responsive. From tapping the app to actually view the live feed it takes similar time to an amazon ring doorbell over Wifi. Also I was expecting much less delay with audio, but it has been pretty much as bad as a wireless ring doorbell, you can hear yourself on it as well at times. It has been a very negative experience, to me sounds like a beta product at best. I bought it quite cheap in the UK as it was on sale, and now I can see why. Even though I don't like amazon and ring, I have to go back using it as at least it works better than reolink poe.

I had a similar solution kept in with a steel framed mesh door. Until one day when I was pottering around the house, I didn't close that door properly and my 50KG bullmastiff crossed with ridgeback and staffy broke through the door and dropped the 70 year old postman by his leg.... The dog let go straight away and it could have been WAY worse and the postie didn't even want compensation beyond medical bills, his ripped jeans and 3 days off work. Even though the post office and postman didn't want compensation and the council animal control services were extremely reasonable because it was clearly MY FAULT not the dogs fault the whole ordeal was more expensive than a doorbell at the gate.... So glad I live in a country where stitches antibiotics and a tetanus shot cost less than 400usd equivalent. Oh and a country where people tend not to sue other individuals for shit like this, not that he would have needed to sue me, I would have just paid out, I even offered compensation but he just wanted a new pair of jeans and his boss just wanted to cover his expenses which came to less than 1000 aud. Actual angels 😇 It helps that most dog owners just deny everything and make things hard whereas immediately regained control, applied first aid, called his boss, gave them all my details and paid for initial costs within hours and fully cooperated with the council investigation. All I'm saying is shit can go wrong and I honestly would have preferred someone stole shit than someone getting hurt because I didn't latch a door properly.

I use an AD410 powered by solar, DC power is a thing, connected to my local network only, integrated into Blue Iris and HA. The Dahua HA integration helps a lot. The phone app is still required for 2-way audio. 2-way audio does work within Blue Iris but not with UI3. I have used 2-way audio with Remote Desktop to the BI server. There is no way that I've found to get 2 way audio when off the local network without using the Amcrest cloud.

In my opinion the recent Eufy news is a major overreaction and case of "pitch-fork-itis". Eufy is not, and has never been a "local control, cloud free" camera company. Every test I've ever done dating back to my first Eufy doorbell video has shown that. Eufy is a "less cloud" option that leverages local storage to reduce their own server costs and avoid monthly fees, but has never been functional without the internet. Eufy uploads 1-2 images to the cloud per motion event for the purpose of thumbnail generation and rich notifications. All recorded videos are stored locally, all video streams are initiated locally. If Eufy DIDN'T host those images on the cloud there would be no way to include them in your rich notifications unless you were exposing homebase to the internet through port forwarding since rich notification images must be hosted on an internet facing server. All of the reasons that I recommended the Eufy dual doorbell in this video are still valid, and "local recording" was not one of those reasons.

They are not "insecure", they are large randomly generated URLs that are active for 24 hours only, the only way that one of those images could be viewed is if a person guessed the URL, which is highly improbable. Love the comparison. I am now fully invested in Reolink and waiting for a doorbell camera to become available. But…. Even though it is a hassle, I think the POE doorbell camera might be better integration. I tried to integrate the E1 outdoor with my Reolink NVR and found it would integrate as an RLC-811A does if I did not use WiFi. If I used WiFi and not POE with this camera, the E1 Outdoor pops up as a separate device, can be used with Alexa, etc… but does not show up as a Channel on the NVR. I contacted Reolink support and they said I had to choose between seamless NVR integration or supporting Alexa. I’m still putzing round with the E1 Outdoor but 24/7 recording and NVR integration trumps Alexa integration. If you find a work around or Reolink support is wrong or I am wrong, I would love to see what you did to make a WiFi Reolink camera integrate with a Reolink NVR on WiFi.

Well I figured it out. The fix costs $80 and I’m not sure why it works. I bought a Netgear POE+ injector. That fixed it. Now I have individual devices along with devices attached to the NVR. So I can select either the cameras individually or the NVR and view all 4. Using the NVR as the POE injector seems to not allow this. Alexa integration needs individual devices to allow for smart cloud ‘enabling’. Not sure why this work and Reolink support has no idea this works. Too bad really. Everything connects to Alexa now. Wow. Wish I knew why I need the POE injector so I could tell Reolink but I ain’t that edumacated. 😜 If this helps anyone, great.

If it is true that a POE device can use ethernet and a separate power input, I think there might be a way to not use the extra POE injector. In this case you would need to connect the ethernet cable from each camera to a ethernet switch and then the ethernet switch to a router and the router to a computer/device as well as to the internet provider. In theory Home Assistant would be able to identify each camera. Alexa can be integrated to Home Assistant. The NVR Im not sure how to add to this combo as I am not familiar with the way it works...

They use local storage either on the homebase or internal SD card, but they use the cloud to connect their app to the homebase/doorbell. When looking at TCO and features. If someone already has a NVR solution at their home (ie BlueIris, xProtect, ZoneMinder, ect), then really it offloads most of the doorbell functionality over to the NVR (ie 24x7 recording, push notifications, person/package detection). In these cases; the cameras need to still have a decent image quality and two-way audio is important but really they just need solid RTSP support. This pushes some of the budget cameras like the Reolink and Amcrest into the "premium" tier in terms of functionality when paired with an appropriate NVR and if that NVR already exists, offers a much lower TCO. Fwiw, this channel does have a fully local review as well: kzitem.info/news/bejne/l45522qCaaqfZ44

I have the Eufy Dual camera door bell and I love it. It has a lot of features that definitely make it stand above the competition and even your premium category. 24/7 recording isn’t a need for me so this fits right in. I also use Eufy’s security system so this just made sense to get as they cover the area before my front door. 👍🏼 I love your reviews and I watch them quite often when deciding on my next purchase(s), definitely keep them coming! 🤘🏼

Eufy sucks once you try to get into home automation and the fact that all their cameras are different and don't work together outside of the app makes it almost useless for me. The doorbell also misses things frequently but I don't have the newest dual camera one.

As an IT professional and integrator myself, this is very helpful to push customers to watch to help make a decision. My Nest Video Doorbell died. One very sunny afternoon, Oct 6th the image looked like an atomic bomb went off nearby. The next day I tried to view the outside and it wasn't working. I tried rebooting it , resetting it and nothing worked. Even with the Nest App in my phone I couldn't pick up signal from it. It does still ring the old doorbell Did any one else have any camera problems on October 6th? I called Nest customer service and they cold figure out what the problem was.

I have the ring doorbell but I have the issue that I get a lag in notification and people are generally at the door. It catches movement in the yard but they are usually at the door by the time I get a notification. It also takes up 20-30 seconds to answer an activation and I dont know why. 30 seconds is a very long time when you are sitting and waiting for the software to work.

If you make an updated 2023 version of this video, could you spend some time on the subscription plans and (if possible) how devices have been supported over time? I've been on the Reolink wagon for a couple years now, with a cloud plan for the remote-backup of events. My subscription just expired, and I'm honestly considering switching due to their subscription plan changes. Between the bad UI that makes it seem like they're dropping a lot of camera support, and requiring the "Upgraded Plan Series" for my Reolink doorbell ($6 or $12/month for ONE device, jumping to $25 or $44/month for multiple devices), it's gotten a lot more expensive and I'm not confident if my devices will still be compatible in another year.

Excellent video. Worth mentioning that you can do also 247 recording for $350 if you buy a reolink doorbell and NVR. That's the setup I have and I really like it. It's basically a camera with an integrated doorbell, rather than the others which are a door bell with integrated camera .. I think the novelty of talking into a doorbell has worn off and most couriers won't do it now anyway as they want to move quickly to the next delivery so personally I don't mind the audio being subpar. edit.. just got to the end of the video and my comment can now be ignored 😂

You always present the best info for informed purchase decisions! Great work. My question - can you still strongly recommend the Eufy doorbell solution in light of the recent revelation that Eufy is deliberately and blatantly lying about its handling of user data. Specifically that they are storing video images from the doorbell in the cloud even if you turn off all cloud integrations? The fact that Eufy says there is no cloud integration but does the exact opposite and without user knowledge to boot is a major, really major flaw. This was brought to light by a KZitemr, Paul Moore, and he demonstrated the flaw on his channel about 2 weeks ago. Your thoughts Rob?

Yeah, it functions just like any wifi camera when added to the Reolink NVR. Can 24/7 record, you can also select "person" from the events type to get flags.? Edit: The doorbell specifically doesn't have pet or vehicle detection, only person and "visitor" which is when someone rings the doorbell.

I was wondering if you looked at even more budget friendly option that look very nice. Tapo and Kasa have both doorbell, wired and battery. They are 3MP and 4MP QHD resolution, some are dual lens like the Tapo D660. They offer ONVIF dual stream with audio, have starlight night vision and offer local recording on the sd card. You can buy a subscript if you want for cloud recording but most feature are all free in the app, even remote view and record. I currently have a C225 Tapo camera and it's very nice. Is it the best? Probably not, but as my first camera at 35$CAD (had a rebate, normally I think it's 65$), it's a really good deal (i think?)

@@TheHookUp I REALLY HOPE YOU ARE RIGHT. My greatest concern NOW was PAUL MOORE revealing partial-info about data that REMAINING in the CLOUD even after 1. deleting his files locally 2. AND deleting his entire Eufy account. This was bad enough for LTT to CUT TIES with EUFY / ANKER as of this weekend. Despite all this, I have a healthy amount of skepticism and cautious optimism, so I took the plunge and have a grand worth of three "3 in 1 video security door lock " which has a 1. fingerprint reader 2. a 2K camera and 3. @@Vamanos46 I think Linus is going to regret saying he is cutting ties with Anker/Eufy. Remember that according to GDPR Eufy has 30 days after account deletion to remove personal information. Also remember that GDPR states that retention policies must match the purpose of the data collected, so since those images are used for thumbnail generation we can expect them to be short lived. In the case of Paul Moore he glosses over the fact that the links he is using to access those images expire after 2 days and while he has made accusations that the data is stored for longer than that, he hasn't been able to access any of those images after 48 hours. I really like Linus, I watch a ton of his stuff, but his "Hot Take" on this one was not well researched.
