Thanks for the breakdown. I like it! Working on filling up a couple other ETFs at the moment but EQCL is on my radar for sure.

I really like some of the products that Horizons have been coming out with lately. BKCL and ENCL are on my buy list. Got a few others on my watchlist.

EQCL sounds promising. We’re very happy with XEQT and will keep it for the long term.

Underperformed vs the EQTs

EQCL is a top contender to add to the covered call etf investing arsenal. My only hesitation at the moment are the developed markets and emerging markets ETFs. It doesn’t look like they own their underlying assets. Some other strategy is at play there. Although if all checks out I wonder how likely Horizons would be to add those ETFs into their covered call suite. Would boost yield for sure especially with the 40%+ weighting. Again it’s a top contender but I must dive deeper into understanding where are the underlying assets for the developed markets and emerging markets ETFs.

Hello, I was wondering if you had any thoughts or insights on how this ETF would be treated in a Non Registered account in Canada for tax purposes? Thanks!
@CoveredCallETFInvesting
7 ай бұрын
@@DaleBernier8 kind of a mix bag from the tax perspective. Uscc and QQCC would be taxed at your marginal tax rate because of the foreign income generated from the covered call premiums. Cncc would be the only portion that would be taxed favorably. The emerging/developed market funds aren’t even covered call ETFs, they are just growth funds that reinvest their dividend back into itself. Usually this is a tax advantaged strategy, many other funds do something similiar. Think of it like an automatic drip within the fund.

@@CoveredCallETFInvesting Thank you for the response! Someone also mentioned that most of the income is classified under capital gains, and that might lessen the taxes? Is that correct? I am currently holding it in Non Reg but wondering if there better ETFS for that account? Cheers!

@@DaleBernier8 basically the more Canadian centric the fund is with Canadian stocks the more tax efficient it will be. Capital gains and eligible dividends will be the most tax efficient. If you start involving underlying American assets then you will trigger foreign income tax at your marginal tax rate. So things like cncc diversified Canadian cc etf would be highly tax efficient or ENCC oil cc etf with Canadian oil companies would also count. Hyld would trigger a bunch of foreign income. Now withholding tax could be involved and that amount wouldn’t get taxed, it’s a tax maneuver for the fund manager where it looks like it’s your principle is being returned to you. Try looking up t3 tax slips for the funds you are interested in and it should show you the breakdown of all the different tax classifications for that fund.

I really like EQCL, 12% yeild and would suspect to see some overall growth as well for a decent total return !

What are your thoughts or any of your viewers thoughts on just owning EQCL? Would that be enough and how safe of a an ETF do you think it is in terms of being fairly new?

They could make a non-leveraged 100% equity asset allocation covered call ETF. EQCC? Haha. I’m happy sticking to my strategy of VFV, VDY, VIU, and VEE (basically components of VEQT) for growth and ESPX, ETSX for the income portion of my portfolio. Mostly because as we saw here there’s no covered calls on the developed ex NA and emerging portion anyways, and I really love ESPX and ETSX. They are just so bread and butter, plain and simple income products.

Hi Adrian, using your calculator at Canada stock channel, HDIV is outperforming HDIF by a big margin . HDIV is 2% and HDIF is showing -9% total returns !!!! please comment. Thank you

my only comment is that past performance does not dictate the future and this is all unrealized unless you buy and sell at those exact times.

@@PassiveIncomeInvesting thank you. Does this means HDIV is better than HDIF ? you compared and came to conclusion from the graphs that Horizon is out performing Vanguard. I have invested only in HDIF. I seize this opportunity to ask one more question - I have QYLD in RRSP, what should replace it with , any similar but better ETF please

@@piyushgaglani5255 I'm not Adrian, but here's my comment. QYLD tracks with the NASDAQ 100 You could buy QQQY,. This does not mean it's better, but it does pay a huge dividend. QYLD tracks the NASDQ 100 and so does QQQY Defiance Nasdaq 100 Enhanced Options Income ETF
