Anthony Arnold has cerebral palsy and has used some form of AAC since he was a preschooler. He started out using no-tech boards and grew up in a time of rapid change and innovation in the world of AAC. You can say he's seen and tried it all over the years!
Anthony eventually settled on Unity® 144 as his AAC language of choice, but after 25 years he experienced increased spasticity, which affected his ability to communicate. Anthony shared, "I have always loved communication, but the older I get, the more I need to work with more significant spasticity while communicating. I was slowly learning to accept this, which I now know was the wrong choice. I will always want or need to speak to an extent. Communication is so essential in every aspect of our lives."
John Halloran and Anthony discuss how he advocated to change his AAC language system as his motor needs changed with age.
