This is an introductory video on a study of the Bible. You will learn the process we received the Bible, as well as, the properties of the Bible.
Session 1: Introduction | This video series is part of a Bible reading plan at Anthem Church, which provides the key scriptures that form and support 10 foundational Christian beliefs.
Section 2: My Story | Pastor Phil explains from his lived experience why the Bible matters to him. God became real to him through the stories and writings of the scriptures.
Section 3: What is the Bible to you? | Pastor Phil highlights the historic influence, the lives changed, and also the concerns we have about the value and validity of the Bible for today.
Section 4: Outcome | Today's goals are to explain the five-fold process by which we received the Bible, and also the properties or the affect the Bible has in our life.
Session 5: Summary of the Process | Pastor Phil highlights the 5-step process by which we received the Bible, which is: revelation, inspiration, canonization, transmission and translation.
Session 6: Revelation | What started the Bible? You will learn what God has done to reveal himself to humanity, how we understand God's self-disclosure to us, and then why it matters that the Bible is a unique way to know God.
Session 7: Inspiration | What is the origin? You will learn what it means that the Bible is "God-breathed," how human authors influenced their writings, and why this matters to us, including a recommended resource on "Biblical Inerrancy" that will go more in-depth on this topic.
Session 8: Canonization | How do we know that what is included in the Bible is God’s Word? You will explore the process by which the books were collected and recognized as authoritative, as well as the reason why we believe the Bible is complete.
Session 9: Transmission | How do we know that the scriptures were preserved and accurately passed on to us? You will learn how the quantity and quality of the copies, and in relation to other historical texts, demonstrate the copies support a credible version of what we read today.
Session 10: Translation | How do we get a version in our language? As of 2023, 7.23 billion people or 97% of all people have access to at least some portion of the scriptures. You will learn about the work being done, as well as how to choose an English translation of the Bible.
Session 11: So What? | Pastor Phil explains the importance of understanding the process of receiving the Bible so that we find meaning and purpose as we abide in God's truth.
Session 12: Properties of the Bible | Why does it matter that the Bible is inspired by God? You will learn how the Bible is our ultimate standard of truth, how it produces a spiritual result in people, and how it is without error.
Session 13: Implications of the Bible | What does this mean for us? Pastor Phil explains the importance of asking questions, but suspending judgement until we have all the facts, of understanding our translations are authoritative to the degree they reflect the originals, and of the value of properly interpreting the Bible.
Session 14: Conclusion | You will learn why this is valuable for us. Pastor Phil concludes with an important reminder for us on the reason for the Bible in our lives.
