@@luttren Back in the day, Pole day qualifiers started ahead of the 2nd day qualifiers. Arie Lyundyk got the track record in 96 on 2nd day qualifying but only started 20th because his pole day time was thrown out because the car was under weight.

A doctor at the track collected chunks of bones from the wreck and put them in plastic baggies labeled left ankle/right ankle and sent them with the careflight helicopter that took him to the hospital.

If the drivers can survive 200+ mph impacts at Indianapolis and walk away in modern cars, there's literally no reason to slow them down on these smaller ovals. The chassis on a current Indycar is stronger than what you'll find in F1 specifically because of these accidents.
