I was watching el Estepario Siberiano drumming away and suddenly started wondering, what is Bill Bruford up to these days? Well I am very happy to find out you have your own channel and I'm very excited to check out all your videos. I saw you live several times, once with Yes, a few times with King Crimson, and once by yourself at the University of Montreal giving a lecture. I wonder if you have any footage of those lectures? Fripp did the same thing back in those days, showing off his Frippertronics etc. Cheers mate!

@@Kenneth-ct3rx yeah if you haven't, you really need to know about his work with King Crimson. It is not a small thing. He jumped from Yes for the chance to work with Jamie Muir on what became Larks Tongues in Aspic, one of my favourite albums of all time. He plays on Starless. Probably British rock music's finest hour. And that is just his first stint in King Crimson. The second stint begat another direction in music. The third era i know less about but you can start at Thrak.

@@prestwickpioneer3474 Oh! Okay and what I basically knew about King Crimsom was their first album( in which was called In the court of the Crimsom King ) with Greg Lake and then in much later years there was another King Crimsom album that had Adrian Belew as their singer and I assume that all through the years that King Crimsom had gone through quite a bit of changes throughout the years, that it was sort of hard to keep up with them! lol😏😏 Oh! And Bill Bruford had drummed with U.K.( I guess before he had joined YES )

Again, this never SWINGS straight ahead in SWINGING 4/4 time, or at least go into SWING in 5/4 time which the tune is in. Mr. Bruford, can we hear you SWING please? I already know, for the last 50 years actually, that you can play in 5.
@JonnyJayJonson
Жыл бұрын
Bill didn't write this tune and it's clearly straight, not swing. So why would he play 4/4 swing?
@vbassone
Жыл бұрын
@@JonnyJayJonson Yeah duh, I know it's "straight." The point is he DESPERATELY wants to be considered a JAZZ drummer. Let's hear him play JAZZ then... A really good way to convey your JAZZ playing would be to SWING. Ok?
@JonnyJayJonson
Жыл бұрын
@@vbassone ooh, a bit touchy? Bill quit drumming years ago, I imagine he's well past trying to be considered a great jazz drummer. He does play swing if you listen to more of his acoustic version of Earthworks, check out the live stuff especially.
@vbassone
Жыл бұрын
@@JonnyJayJonson I'm "touchy" because you're a smart ass... I've listened to EW and I am definitely not a fan so don't "recommend" I listen to anything because I've probably heard it more than you. AGAIN, Earthworks didn't SWING. SWING is LARGELY jazz. Notice I didn't say Jazz is ONLY swing so read carefully, I know this is hard for you to grasp. And btw, you are COMPLETELY wrong about Dr. Bruford because he ABSOLUTELY wanted to be considered a JAZZ drummer and DESPERATELY w3anted to get as far away from ONLY being remembered for his progressive rock playing as far as his legacy goes. The only reason he might be "well past trying to be considered a great jazz drummer" is two reasons; 1. he retired, and 2. he realized, and rightfully so, that he WOULDN'T EVER be thought as a legitimate JAZZ drummer... Let me make one thing perfectly clear to you; I respect Bruford highly as a PROGRESSIVE rock and perhaps "fusion" drummer mixing jazz-type elements with rock elements, but he is NOT and never really has been a bonafide JAZZ drummer, and yes that includes Earthworks..... Now don't get touchy on me.......
