Bill, it is not HOPE. It is EXPECTATIONS. You EXPECT that people will be smart and do the right thing. Then they prove you wrong and you get angry. But you push your anger off on to the others instead of blaming yourself for getting it wrong. If you would have seen the woman in the car and EXPECTED and PREDICTED she was going to screw up you could have laughed and told yourself, "See? I got it right!"

6:03 - Bill Burr watching a School of Life video is something I've never thought I'd ever witness.
@0seraphic

Emotions are how we process our surroundings quickly. Sometimes thinking things through logically takes too long. Anger is a response to mistreatment or injustice. Bill is an angry driver because he is very logical and considerate as a driver, and in turn, he expects the same out of others. It's when people fail to meet this expectation that he responds with anger. He has been mistreated. Why go through the trouble of being so considerate when no one else will treat him the same? But you can train yourself. Your natural reaction is not always the best response. In this case, there is no sense in being angry over something you cannot control: other drivers. Sometimes all you can do is appreciate that you are still alive after some fool makes a mistake on the road. "At least I'm not just a stain on the freeway." Sometimes it is your high expectations that cause your own unhappiness. I think the video he watched just did a poor job of wording this. Cheers, Bill.

Exactly, and its probably healthier in the long term to express anger instead of just bottling it up year after year and going on a rampage when you've reached your tipping point one day.

LOL. When you realize Bill Burr watches the same School of Life vids you do. Notes on that vid: the very idea upsets people, but anger is a decision. Turning that emotion into a force of nature forfeits your own power, which in turn makes you more prone to fear and anger.

why shouldn't you get angry when someone almost kills you due to their inability to follow rules of the road? Espec. when you have other people's safety to be responsible for such as your baby girl and wife
@mau4604

Exactly. My family and girlfriend always get on to me for getting angry or curse whenever we have a close call on the road and I’m like “it’s YOUR safety that I’m responsible for as long as you’re in my car, why shouldn’t I yell at that stupid twat that almost cost us our lives?” They just don’t get it.

the idea is, and it kinda makes sense, is when you have high expectations, and shit doesn't work like that, you get upset. if you have zero expectations, you kinda just shrug and go well fuck no wonder. not that you'll never get angry, just a lot of those people that blow up expect shit to go a certain way and it doesn't and ticks them off.

People like us are prone to anger because we expect people to conduct themselves appropriately and follow the rules of our society and are pissed when inevitably people don’t. I think a better way of looking at it is to assume everyone is an idiot and will act as such.
