Not many guitarist can handle a Telecaster like Bill Frisell. His tone is classic Fender. An incredible artist.

I was a kid in southern California back then. I know this is "In My Room" but something about the melody also catches the beautifully desolate sense of the beach on a cold winter's day.

I am lifted to fond memories of an old station wagon, a static hampered car radio, and warm Summer nights. Bill Frisell and his friends capture the wistfulness perfectly. Thanks bathoshue, thanks.

Disclaimer... Before the musicians out there bury me.... 10 times everything I know about music can be hidden in a thimble.... Someone said he kind of blended two kinds of music jazz and surfer... I was thinking he had worked this towards what I would call "blues"... Long, sleepy, drooly kind of "put you to sleep blues" ...

Herr Lintig, I know this comment was 2 years ago but I am replying nonetheless, this is an amazingly well done cover of a Beach Boys song from the '60s; you are correct when you say it is surf. I'm apologetic if I come off as rude, I felt the need to inform you even though this doesn't really accomplish anything. Es tut mir leid.

Any idea why he chooses this key (B?) to play in without adding capo to II? I see how he uses a harmonic in high E at 7 and that's nice, but is there a more fundamental reason? Trying to understand theory and I'm at the bottom rung, so bear with me please. Thanks.

James King Any good modulated delay pedal will get you that kind of sound, more or less. The idea is that the original signal from the guitar still comes through as is, but you add echoes where the pitch gets bent around, which happened naturally with old tape based echo machines because things just got out of spec after a while. Frisell is probably using his Line 6 Delay Modeler; personally I use a Subdecay EchoBox. (Honestly, half the time I just use some reverb and bend the neck around a bit.)
@BradMaestas

James King Besides any effects, he also subtly bends the neck a lot.
