When I was 5 we moved to okc. Moved into an apartment complex that was mostly black folks. Well, there were 2 dudes living next to us that liked to blast rap music. Back in that time was the era of old stereos with the bass, treble, mids, and highs with the knob settings. My dad had one of those with the big ass speakers. One night he had had enough. So he turned those speakers around, put em up against the apartment wall facing the dudes apartment, and cranked this song on...the bass at the beginning of this song rattled the fucking walls man. 😂😂 them dudes turned their music down quick. I'll tell ya right now, that is the moment I fell in love with rock and roll, and Billy squier.

Yep - I wish I had remained true and loyal and searched for him and followed him, but it was more difficult in the 80's. Especially in Idaho, where I grew up. One record store, no radio station, no concerts (had to go to Spokane for our concerts). I remember thinking the video in question was a little strange, but thought who cares? We all like to do a sexy little dance in front of the mirror, I guess! That's what he was doing in my eyes back then - living out a little fantasy that we all have. Today I think "and even if he DOES like to both ways? Who the F cares? He's an artist - we should focus more on the art."

Agree! Been rocking this since it was released in 1984. Unfortunately, the video for the single released before this literally killed this radio Rock star. The backlash was so immense and there was nothing he could do. This hard Rock fans stigmatized him. The closest thing I could relate this to in music prior was the USA's rejection of the Bee Gees. @@shawndardbarbarbarian5061 I think what lynda63harris was trying to say was...it wasn't "normal" for a hetero guy to dance around in pastels in front of the mirror and do a sexy cat-crawl across his bedroom floor, flip his hair and arch his back and rip his shirt off of himself all while dressed in pastels and getting tangled in pastel sheets, etc., so he must be gay...so she was saying that even if he is gay or swings both ways, that is private life and none of her business. I think SHE thinks she's being very progressive in saying that, even tho her statement implies that being homosexual or bisexual is something she thinks should be kept "private" and that it is not normal (or weird, as you put it). She also says that she is "just here for a real music experience" which implies that she ignores the private or "weird" stuff. I am rarely in it for JUST the music. I love to see who the person IS. I love it when they LET us see who they are. If Billy felt beautiful during that time in his life (he was) and wanted to do sexy little snaps and dances in front of the mirror like many of us have done in our younger years, and he wants us to watch - II say let him. @Dhoylandrules84 I don't entirely agree. In Boston, the big four are Aerosmith, Boston, The Cars, and The J Geils Band. At no 5 is clearly Billy Squier. Then we have Extreme, Godsmack, Bobby Brown, etc.

Yeah this was a great song for opening up a show, the vibes were amazing and it got everyone on their feet. I’ve often wondered who came up with the lead guitar? It’s a mix of very short and simple riffs, a good mix and a great one to play live.

He did. Billy Squier was huge fro. 1981-1985 until a totally terrible music video for "Rock Me Tonite" killed everything he worked for. I never saw anything like it. His shows were always high energy hard rocking events. His 1980 song "The Big Beat" is one of the most sampled songs in all of Hip Hop.

Why the Hell did Billy Squier do a video similar to this one for the "Rock Me Tonight" song!!!! Where it's a performance video were the band is on stage with a live audience!!! If Billy would have gone with a live performance video instead of that ridiculous dancing and prancing like a Sissy Foolish go go dancer girl type of video he did for "Rock Me Tonight" Billy might still be on top today!!!! I remember that there was some serious back lash when Billy put out that video!!!! (What was Billy thinking!!!!😂😂😂😂) The die hard male Rockers were like "What the F.... is this S.... !!!!" I for one ,was always into the music!!!! But I remember a lot of male fans stopped being fans after that video came out!!!! Billy's career kind of took a nose dive!!!! And bombed!!!!😔 Well most music videos on MTV were silly and stupid and awful in the 80s!!! But there were some that caught my attention as an early teen in the 80s and were cool 😎to me!!!!!😄😃 This video kicks butt and is awesome!!!!! Billy always put on a good live show!!!!! Plus Billy is a pretty good song writer!!!! And he has charisma and stage pressence and can play guitar live!!!!!😁😄😊😃😋😄🙂😃☺️

His music has ALWAYS KICKED ASS! Shame the "video killed the radio star" , in his case - goes to show how societies attitudes have changed : nowadays , if an artist actually IS gay , they're embraced much for THAT reason - which is stupid! Squire has a catalog that rivals MOST of what has come out in the last 20 yrs

Have seen Billy 3 times in concert & he was fantastic every time. One of the most underrated singers, songwriters, guitarists, performers in the world. SHOULD BE IN THE ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME AND NOT FOR MOST SAMPLED ARTIST BUT FOR HIS OWN FABULOUS WORK.
