Until half way through Cassidy Bobby couldn't find the beat. I love him but it's time he hang it up. He couldn't control his attack during the duo and got lost lyrically too often. If not for the other fellas drowning him out he could have blown the entire set.

@@johnallen9567 big difference between a good time and a good performance. He couldn't control his attack, he couldn't keep time, he got lost lyrically multiple times. Having seen him at his best this was hard to watch. Sure he had his moments but he also looked absolutely lost many times. I think if more folks watched objectively they'd agree. It was a great time and Billy absolutely slayed it but I'd rather see Bobby step out with grace than decline any further on stage for all to see.

Funny thing is I got the feeling NONE of it (zero) was rehearsed at all. Althought Billy Strings and his band knew he was coming, and I am fairly certain they had a set list, I am also fairly confident almost none of it beyond that was planned or practiced. They were actually signalling cord changes and progressions by hand.

That was spectacular and a helluva treat. The reason Bobby (trust me) practiced those hot licks, is because night in/out he simply can't play at that pace sustained, as Sammy Hagar said, he is the best complementary rhythm & color guitarist to ever set foot on stage. Can you think of anyone that was in Bob's shoes with a different band? Not to mention the greatest American rock band of all time. He is one of a kind (all time), but we saw a jolt of good ole Grateful Dead Weir there because String & Co are fantastic and fast, Bob was not unprepared. Brought tears to my eyes. Over 6 tours spanning 7.5 years, Mayer is a master, from the outset he followed Bob's lead, deferred to Weir, and geared his now soaring otherworldly style of play to an average speed to fly when he needs to for the Dew but crawl when Stella comes calling. It works. Imagine John and Billy on the same stage, with Chimenti and Oteill, hopefully, Bob but at his age, we can only hope. You can be damn sure Mayer saw this and was smiling!
@jaytoday10
2 жыл бұрын
Mayer is a douche. Difficult to listen or watch him with Dead and Co. I actually enjoy some of his own music. I saw one show each from the first two tours. But I fell asleep. After seeing the Billy and the Kids show at Red Rocks, with Strings and Tom Hamilton, I’d like to see either of those two or both in Dead and Co. They can bring an energy that Mayer doesn’t have. That Red Rocks show proves that Kreutzman can still play fast. Phil’s bands always get down too! So we know the incredibly incredibly slow tempo of Dead and Co is a Bobby thing. He was one of the most unique guitar players I’ve ever heard. But he’s a really old guy and whatever tone he’s got doing just doesn’t work. All my opinion of course.

They occasionally find it, but nowhere near enough. And yes, I understand that the remaining “core 3” are in their late 70s and I am GRATEFUL that they’re still playing…But, like Billy and the Kids showed us at Red Rocks, and what JRAD and Grateful Shred bring to the party, nothing like some tempo to make things right and dance the night away….I can only imagine seeing Bobby with Billy and the Kids live… Hell, I’d love to see Bobby with JRAD… There’s just something about keeping it Weir-d that makes it right!✌🏼
