Such a legend is she. I met Nilsson backstage at the Met after a wonderful Walkyre. She opened her door as she bounced, laughing, around the room riding a children's stuffed horse & sang Wilkommen!! It was a birthday gift to my mother (& what a gift this performance & her humanity were!) to both of us.

I can barely speak much German, but it's wonderful to see them in the artistic process. I was lucky to see Nilsson in Elektra, Frau ohne Schatten, and gala concert, but all near the end of her career. She autographed her biography for me, and when I told her it was my birthday, she was so thrilled!!

I saw her starting in 1962 the first role Turandot and all her major German roles except Frau. She has not been matched even remotely in any of them.

Wow!!! Amazing!!! You are a really lucky person! Ilove her... But i couldnt See her alive. How Was her voice? Is that true... WHEN YOU were standing at the last row... It was like a laser Light... It was just so loud that you thought she is singing next to you? Is that right? An old man told me that but i couldnt believe him. To which Opera singer nowadays is her volume comparable to? Any idea? Wish you good health!!!

@@erichmayr7299 I saw Nilsson in the last years of her career, so it's hard to make a general judgement. She did NOT sound like her recordings, which I find shrill and without depth. In the theater, her voice was much warmer that it comes across on microphone/speakers. Size? Everybody is hung up on size, I suppose! No, I heard louder voices, for sure. Gwyneth Jones, and especially Eva Marton, who appeared in Frau with Nilsson, so it was easy to make a comparison. Nilsson's voice was different; it wasn't a tidal wave like Marton at all. It was incredibly well-focused, so that with seemingly little effort she could make a fortissimo or pianissimo heard perfectly in the back of the theater. That's my opinion anyway. So many opera fans have heard her on records and think they know all about the Nilsson Voice!

Man bedenke, die Nilsson singt hier nur, mit halber Stimme, sie hält sich zurück. Andere Sängerinnen wären froh, wenn sie auf der Bühne so singen könnten, wie La Nilsson bei der Probe.
