Texting while driving def deserves a ticket... but if only the cop knew that changing lanes over a solid white line is not illegal (which is likely why it was only a "warning" ). I tried citing sources that prove this, but my comment got deleted, so you'll have to do your own research. ;)
@davidweaver2156
Жыл бұрын
Sorry you are wrong, you can only cross a solid white line to avoid hazardous conditions within your lane. This is true in all states. Florida also uses a double solid white line. I have been a professional driver for over 20 years and it's only broken lines where it's legal to change lanes
@popcorn5130
Жыл бұрын
@@davidweaver2156 YOU are wrong. Sorry. DOUBLE solid white line has nothing to do with a single solid white line. ;) I truly hoped you would actually do some simple research to confirm... but apparently that was too much to ask. I was a Police Officer for 20 years - not in Florida, but all states abide by the same guidelines in the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) - and, in my state, there isn't even a traffic law that addresses solid white lines at all (and I couldn't find one for Florida). The Florida Driver Handbook does say that solid white lines shouldn't be crossed except for hazards, but I could find no law to back that up - it kinda just goes along with the indication in the MUTCD that solid white lines are to be used to "discourage" lane changes, not prohibit them. There are some things that are indicated in my state's Driver's Manual but they aren't enforceable because there is no statute that corresponds to those indications, so they are merely suggestions. (I hope this comment doesn't get deleted for this, but... see article "SOME FLORIDA TRAFFIC LAWS PUZZLE NEWCOMERS" (it's older but still relevant) and "What's Driving You Crazy: The rules of solid white lines on city streets, interstates" (it's Colorado but indicates it pertains to ALL states).) If you can find an actual Florida statute to back up your assertion, please provide it. I could find nothing, and Florida law (not just what is in a handbook) on solid white lines should align with the MUTCD, which is universally adhered to on most subjects.
@popcorn5130
Жыл бұрын
@@davidweaver2156 In the MUTCD, you'll find this several times: "1. A wide solid double white lane line where crossing is prohibited. 2. A wide solid single white lane line where crossing is discouraged. 3. A wide broken single white lane line where crossing is permitted." and you'll find: "A STAY IN LANE (R4-9) sign (see Figure 2B-10) may be used on multi-lane highways to direct road users to stay in their lane until conditions permit shifting to another lane. Guidance: If a STAY IN LANE sign is used, it should be accompanied by a solid double white lane line(s) to prohibit lane changing."
