Great video, thanks for sharing. Yup I grafted a branch of Beauty plum last spring on my Blenheim apricot and the graft union is already very thick, more thick than regular apricot branches. LOL.

The grafts I did last year of beauty plum grew 4 foot. They have plums this year but I should have pruned the grafts during the summer.

This year I tried grafting peach to ornamental purple leaf plum. The previous owners liked ornamental trees and the two purple leaf plums both blew over after a heavy rainstorm. I ended up cutting them down but they still send up suckers so since last year I have been using them for grafting experiments. The first graft I tried was cherry because I read that some varieties of purple leaf plum in Spain of can take a cherry graft. Mine all failed. When somebody sent me some skinny Adara scions last summer I grafted two of them to these purple leaf plum suckers and they are still alive. Last week I grafted peach to these and one or two of them is starting to push leaves through the parafilm. It was a last minute decision otherwise the would have tried to find an interstem.

Why didn’t you graft cherry to the adara? It’s used as a plum to cherry stem just like z-stem

Because they were very small and sickly looking and it was the middle of summer. The person who had them got them from someone else, hung onto them for a while, and then sent them to me in the middle of summer when they realized they didn’t have time for it. Even now the ones I have grafted to purple leaf plum are alive but not vigorous. I have two on European plum that are just now showing some vigor. I want to use them as a source for more I can use for grafting cherry to plum but not until they get bigger.
