Did anyone notice that the pipers had a dirk in their right stockings? These young men have every right to be proud of their work in Iraq. some of the best solders in the world. Long live Scotland, long live the Queen. From an American combat veteran.

They are not only impressive, they are well-trained and damned fine fighting men. We trained with elements of the 5th Scottish Parachute Regiment in a joint operation in the mid-1970's. I would have gone to war with them anytime.

I'm glad this was recorded, the music stirs the soul, and I love how the old ladies are right at the front and bursting with pride for their boys, it's going on my favourite list!

As you saw in that film the Company taking up the rear got out of step, it's very common because the sound is delayed. It happened at the Queens Coronation parade, I actually started it by holding a large disc up so the troops fell in along the Mall could see it and knew they would march in 5 minutes time. I served from 1947 to 1973.

In the 1980s the Black Watch came to the tiny town of Bencoolen (Bengkulu) on the island of Sumatra in Indonesia and they marched with their bagpipes this tune. The whole town turned out. It was the most exciting event since Independence. Even now when I feel low in spirits I listen to the Black Watch and immediately cheer up. There is really nothing as uplifting as bagpipes.
